I don't get on here much! But also I am usually logged in on my other account thanks to weird anxiety . :/
THANK YOU
Absolutely. 😆
It probably helps that my dad is a huge nerd, and it has always been thus
Yeah, my dad nabbed this one somehow and it's fun to have. "Coming May 23rd 1984" always gets me a little
You absolutely did. <3
Temple of Doom on top only so that I can mention that I have a framed original (though small) "coming soon" poster hanging in our hallway.
The interior of a mailing box containing Rancho Gordo beans and featuring a postcard of the poster for Indiana Jones & the Temple of Doom.
OMG! Today's mail brought BEANS and also Indy on postcards? All thanks to the marvelous @wrdnrd.bsky.social
Cute drawing of a 'werewolf': In 1642 in the town of Lemgo, Germany, local pharmacist David Welman was accused of witchcraft and being a werewolf. Anonymous hate mail was sent to him, one of which included this sketch.

Tip for PhD applicants reaching out to prospective advisors: Don’t use an LLM to write these emails. It’s not a great first impression to express your admiration for a recent paper the faculty member published if that paper does not exist.
Hey, this week's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is about Air Traffic Control, and I'm briefly in it.
youtu.be/YeABJbvcJ_k?...
The way I yelled when you showed up on screen. 😆
That doesn't matter when the project is directly funding JK Rowling's hate campaign against trans people in the UK, which she has openly bragged about.
Stay away from this new HP project like the plague
I'm shocked. Shocked!
love when people get caught using LLMs for some important analytical task "to save time" and then they're like "don't worry we rigorously vetted the results." man....you either saved time OR rigorously vetted the results, but i promise you didn't do both
I love that there's like ONE throwaway sentence all "we know that some folks have reasonable objections"
I'm truly morbidly curious about the internal convo around this
TL;DR: "We have used an inefficient, inaccurate plagiarism machine with well-documented biases to choose panelists from a pool of the people the machine has stolen from. Since we know the machine constantly makes stuff up, we have also used humans to check its work. This has saved us so much time!"
Anyway I'm still too sick to be very smart so I'll stop here, but sheeesh
Just ... what a bizarre decision. And even if it *did* save the conrunners time (which I question), surely that time savings is not worth the blowback you should have KNOWN was coming, from authors whose work was scraped and included in LLMs? From anyone who understands the complications with genAI?
This is also what I'm over here yelling about -- for this & the other reasons mentioned in this thread.
Okay, a lot of people are expressing outrage about this, and I also feel outrage about this, but since everyone else has already expressed my feelings for me, I'm going to put on my Teacher of Analytical Thinking Pants and point out something important.
this whole thing is wild af
NICE
A reminder that if the government can send migrants to a prison camp without any due process, it can send U.S. citizens there, too. I know because this happened to me and my family in 1942.
THE WHOLE SERIES IS OUT IN THE WILD!
I don't make any money on these, but please support physical media and tell your friends to check out the show so I can make a case to do moreeeeeeee!
Thank you!!
