I am sad to tell you of the death of Prof. Peter Jones. Pete taught generations of plant scientists at UCC. Gifted scientist; a witty and charming man; an all round good egg. He supervised my PhD; was a constant support and wonderful colleague. He will be missed dearly.

These protests are only partially about fuel and unfortunately the mob is buoyed by the knowledge that if they cause a nuisance of themselves long enough the government will remove the chair of the board or whatever other mad demand they have this week.

The information about this I saw made a big deal of "protecting Irish families 🇮🇪" complete with a few 🇮🇪. Red flag if ever I saw it.

Let's await the publication of the latest route but the norm with public transport infrastructure planning here seems to be to bend over backwards to avoid upsetting motorists by routing through green space instead. We'll see how this goes.
