There are 23 Lettices. All but one is certainly related to me. The other is a bit of a mystery at the moment. Fascinating stuff and great fun!

Páirc Uí Chaoimh emerges as potential new site for Cork Events Centre Developer Michael O’Flynn suggests stadium-adjacent site as fresh option as long-delayed Cork Events Centre project progresses

If the GAA no longer have a need for a 4G pitch here, it should be returned to public ownership and as part of the Marina Park- which it was always meant to be.

Bishop James Massa, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Doctrine, issued the following
statement:
"For over a thousand years, the Catholic Church has taught just war theory and it is that long tradition the Holy Father carefully references in his comments on war. A constant tenet of that thousand-year tradition is a nation can only legitimately take up the sword in self-defense, once all peace efforts have failed' (Catechism of the Catholic Church, no. 2308). That is, to be a just war it must be a defense against another who actively wages war, which is what the Holy Father actually said: 'He does not listen to the prayers of those who wage war.'
"When Pope Leo XIV speaks as supreme pastor of the universal Church, he is not merely offering opinions on theology, he is preaching the Gospel and exercising his ministry as the Vicar of Christ. The consistent teaching of the Church is insistent that all people of good will must pray and work toward lasting peace while avoiding the evils and injustices that accompany all wars."

Scorching if careful and polite 🔥 to Vance from the US conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Doctrine! Many of those lads are horribly rightwingbut a Catholic come lately should never take them on in matters of doctrine! Even a cradle Catholic would think twice, you’d have be well prepared!

Assessing European cities with the 3-30-300 rule underscores the need for enhanced urban greening efforts - Nature Communications Less than 15% of people in 862 European cities live in full compliance with the 3-30-300 greening rule. Wealthier areas show higher adherence, highlighting urgent needs for equitable urban planning to...

The 3-30-300 principle is a practical guideline that advocates for 3 trees visible from every home; 30% canopy cover in every neighbourhood; and living within 300 metres of high-quality green space.

Urban green spaces are scarce, while climate and wealth impact access A study of 862 European cities reveals a lack of adequate access to green space. It also highlights a climate-driven geographical difference and a clear socioeconomic divide.

New study shows that just 2-4% of people living in Dublin and Cork (and less than 2% on Waterford, Limerick and Galway) benefits from the full 3-30-300 urban greening principle. That's way behind most other European cities studied.

It is simply insulting that the Healy Raes, Richard O’Donoghue, Micheál Collins and the Independent Ireland to say the farmers, contractors, hauliers, and other protestors are the “real people of Ireland”. What are the rest of us? Don’t we count? Are we less Irish? #SpeirGorm

I don't disagree with the names chosen or the very reasonable public process for shortlisting them by the way! Just curious.

Great minds think alike!
Out of interest, was there any consideration of the other items named for these people/groups? E.g. SM having a building named for him already and CnM having a walkway?

I think it's only marginally better that, instead of believing himself to be Christ, the US president believes he is a medical doctor.

I am sad to tell you of the death of Prof. Peter Jones. Pete taught generations of plant scientists at UCC. Gifted scientist; a witty and charming man; an all round good egg. He supervised my PhD; was a constant support and wonderful colleague. He will be missed dearly.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

These protests are only partially about fuel and unfortunately the mob is buoyed by the knowledge that if they cause a nuisance of themselves long enough the government will remove the chair of the board or whatever other mad demand they have this week.

Let's await the publication of the latest route but the norm with public transport infrastructure planning here seems to be to bend over backwards to avoid upsetting motorists by routing through green space instead. We'll see how this goes.
