Our society is generally designed around favouring the detached single-family homeowner in most regards, they make up an impossibly powerful interest-block that will, at the municipal, provincial, and federal level, kill any serious attempt to threaten the overall cost of housing.

Canada, watch this and realize this is the absolute furthest length any democrat will go to defend us. Half-hearted, conceding that any defences we take is indeed insulting and disrespectful, and concerned only with their voters and their pocketbooks.

In so far as there are vegetables to be eaten it’s planning, construction and procurement reforms to ensure that we don’t have world-leading construction costs in making these things happen and can thereby do more of them

I know Tom is joking, but bike lanes only "take space" if you accept the car brained premise that roads are only for cars

The Dishonest Online Campaign to Support Alberta Separatism | The Tyee A research group raises red flags about foreign interference in the province’s independence referendum.

You mean we don't have to wait for a developer to apply to change the zoning by-law and evaluate that application against policies, we can just do things ourselves???

edmonton trolleybus on snowy downtown street

edmonton trolleybus on snowy downtown street

devastated to learn that edmonton had a trolleybus network, were actually trialling low-floor trolleys from vancouver from 2007-2008 with plans to modernize the system, but then city council voted to kill off the whole network in 2009.

the council vote? 7 to 6. literally just one vote.

I admit I was under the delusion that this gov’t cared about defence, and we were done with the old ways of jobs patronage (and “it can’t be done,” etc. and so on).

Apparently, the problem was there wasn’t enough of that! Good lord, no wonder nothing ever gets done in this country.

The Carney government seems to he under the impression that the problem with past defense procurement is we didn't do enough to turn them into a jobs patronage program

At a certain point here in Toronto we need to be asking ourselves why Edmonton is producing more than 10x as many multiplex units as us per year. (It's zoning and DCs/taxes).

I've been more pessimistic lately. The most likely path I see is that various flavours of NIMBYism and rent-seeking hollow out any real industry from our country and eventually the Yankees acquire us on spec.

The ironic thing is that the one thing that reduces this satellite town phenomenon is amalgamation, which most Ottawa urbanists despise.

I'm not a cyclist, or a driver, but this fella is confirming my very long-held view that when a driver goes across a zebra crossing that I'm at that they're thinking that, unlike them who is in a car and _has somewhere to be_, I am simply just randomly walking about

There’s even stories about people pleading guilty in order to get out of provincial jails and into federal custody (sentences of 2 or more years are served in federal prisons which generally report better staffing and crowding). People should plead guilty because they did it not to get human rights.

Pay no attention to what renegotiating royalties at gunpoint does to the rest of the foreign investment Canada desperately needs.

New reports offer guidance for strengthening the next National Housing Strategy | Canadian Human Rights Commission The Canadian Human Rights Commission is Canadas national human rights institution. The Commission helps ensure that everyone in Canada is treated fairly, no matter who they are.

The Federal Housing Advocate has advised the government to set a target date to resolve the middle-class housing crisis by... 2060. 34 years from now. This means a Grade 10 student will have to wait until they're 50 to afford a home.

You cannot be pro-immigration and anti-infill housing at the same time. It is an oxymoron. We cannot properly welcome new people - whether from abroad or within - without building affordable places for them to live. The Canadian political class largely fails to understand the scale of our problem.
