It’s stories like these that provide moments of clarity for me as to why I’m in education… to help cultivate digital technologists of tomorrow who would absolutely never even consider rolling out a feature as objectively stupid as this.

#DigiTechFest26 at @qmul.bsky.social today was a success 🎉

Our degree apprentices enjoyed an eclectic mix of guest speakers, an alumni panel, apprentice video showcase, and apprentice talks.

Stop Calling Them Soft Skills: Why Judgement, Empathy and Critical Thinking Are the Skills AI Cannot Replace The skills we have spent decades calling ‘soft’ are the only ones AI cannot do.

I can get on board with “human skills”.

I also like this quote:

“The discomfort of not having an instant response is where empathy actually lives. AI has been designed to eliminate that discomfort. Which means it has been designed to eliminate the conditions under which empathy develops.”

#genai #softwareengineering #apprenticeships #github #copilot | Jon Jackson Yesterday I took the plunge and demonstrated Agentic AI software development to my students for the first time... Long overdue? Maybe. Too early? Also, maybe. These were final year degree apprentices, some of whom already using GitHub Copilot in their workplace, so I considered this a low risk audience. Introducing this for first-years who are still learning how to code? That doesn't seem to be the right thing to do (yet)... I'll continue to reevaluate, of course. What are you reflections on introducing Agentic AI (not just standalone LLMs) to students for software development or other disciplines? Oh, and remember, these agents can still introduce infinite loops despite checking and testing their own work 😬 Would a newbie have spotted this? Maybe this is another teaching opportunity to add to the pile. #genAI #softwareengineering #apprenticeships #github #copilot

My poor little GitHub Copilot agent got confused and totally built the wrong thing by ignoring the spec in an originally referenced GitHub issue but I think I got it back on track... 🤓
