“Rice, the world’s most consumed grain, will become increasingly toxic as the atmosphere heats and as carbon dioxide emissions rise, potentially putting billions of people at risk of cancers and other diseases, according to new research published Wednesday in The Lancet.” t.co/BF8r8au5nl

Staggering. The American Meteorological Society, in partnership with the National Weather Association, have released a statement regarding the proposed elimination of National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) research

Can confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale

There is weeding to be done.
Over and out.
Be careful.
Stay curious. 💚
And, we should be very grateful to those who keep us informed about what is happening. Instead of these denegrading comments here.
We would still be sound asleep if it were not for those courageous voices!
Those "alarmists"!
Their work of warning is not done.
The process of collapse is ongoing!
I agree with @jacklowe.bsky.social comment.
Not only can doomers be doers, but as Paul Chefurka wrote out in his "Ladder of Awareness" piece:
Most people who develop collapse awareness, choose an outer path/active path or a combination of both.
It is so popular to dump on doomers.
It's hurtful!
I wish I had the grace, equanimity and wisdom of Phoebe Barnard.

In case you missed it, this week Nate sat down with existential risk researcher Luke Kemp, to talk about human extinction, societal collapse, and dystopian futures.

This is only my second day logging in, and I am amazed at how many fellow doomies are here, creating community.
Wonderful!
I have to admit, I will never be a frequent poster, but I am an avid follower. 💚
Let's see... What have I been reading and listening to what might be worth sharing?
Oh gosh... 🙄
I breached my personal "time spent online" boundary again.
Better go spend some time out there, instead of on here. 🌻
Will be back another day.
(Bluesky seems to have stuck the right balance, so far.🤞
An edit option would be nice though.)
Stay safe.
Stay curious. 💚
thank you for reminding me 💚
I’m the “Bad Guy” even though I punish the eternally wicked?!
This is starting to sound like a conspiracy..
🤣
Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.
Teach a man to fish, he'll contribute to the global overdepletion of the ocean.
So give him a salad, maybe.
It takes time to compost all that 💩 🤭
I'm finally getting to that place of experiencing a sense of equanimity.
But I still turn into an angry, blubbering mess every now and then. 🤬😭
Next year, I'm looking forward to:
1. Learning how to "make and mend" more useful things.
- basket weaving
- soap making
- fermenting foods
2. Joining or starting a "nurturing community" project.
- collapse cafe?
- collapse choir?
- collapse comedy?
Searching for inspiring examples.
Your 'moment of doom' for Dec. 1, 2024 ~ Planetary boundaries.
"Land degradation is expanding worldwide at the rate of 1m sq km every year, undermining efforts to stabilise the climate, protect nature and ensure sustainable food supplies"
www.theguardian.com/environment/...
Has global warming accelerated in recent decades? If we look at the rate of warming between 1970 and 2008 and extend it through present, we see that almost all years since 2015 are above the previous trend.
I don't think I can say this enough: the environmental movement has lost its way.
Environmentalism is not about sustainability and finding substitutes for fossil fuels in solar, wind, etc.
Environmentalism is about saving as much of the planet as possible, about preserving our beautiful home.
Over the past two decades, I've done a lot of the "inter path" work to process my growing collapse-awareness.
Steadily climbing Paul Chefurka's "Ladder of Awareness".
I think I've reached the point of collapse acceptance now.
Hope-free!
A blessing and a curse?
#TalkCollapse
I'm so dreading the gatherings at this time of year.
Can't discuss IRL what is on my mind.
As soon as I mention climate (not even collapse), the conversation either shuts down, or is quickly redirected to something more "cheerful".
Decline invitations = social isolation.
What to do?

As collapse unfolds and intensifies, #JustCollapse is evolving to ensure that socio-ecological justice prevails no matter how hard and difficult things get.
This is our current strategy that we are updating for 2025. Let us know your thoughts about what the new strategy should include.

"This is #climatebreakdown: a new series exploring the real impacts on people".
The Maximum Entropy Principle says systems evolve to maximise entropy production within their constraints. Civilisations are no exception - they channel energy to maintain order (cities, economies) while driving massive energy dissipation (fossil fuels, deforestation). 1/3 #overshoot #collapse
