Been having some real existential crises lately about what exactly I’m doing with my life.
Feel like I woke up from a 5 year slog of med school & policy work and am looking at the start of a grueling residency when there are many things I’ve worked on and could do. Always living life on hard mode.

The agency and people who could change this have simply not been interested (South Bay Cities COG)
reasonable, weho dropped the bomb of confirming that her motion as written would kill the EIFD, which meant that if Bass want to own any of the process at all, or have any input, she had to accept guardrails that keep the project on track. Is it insane that we're still coddling 22 freaked-out
chance of funding it in the first place. With the incredible response from everyone calling and writing in, Bass's support wholly collapsed, which forced her to go to the negotiating table with WeHo instead of trying to ram this through over their objections. Then, when she still refused to be
This is a list of (some) locations that tied or broke their all-time *April* monthly temperature record in March 2026 during the record-shattering heatwave. Statistically and meteorologically, that is extraordinarily hard to achieve locally--let alone across such a vast region.
San Diego's Section 8 waitlist closes: 76,000 people, 15-year wait, zero movement since 2022.
Voucher costs up 80% as rents surge, but that's the symptom.
Root cause: housing scarcity. We can't voucher our way out of a shortage.

I just talked to Supervisor Horvath's office and here are their concerns with this language if it is indeed accurate:
1) to finance the project, the County will need to set up an EIFD (special financing district) Without a specific route chosen, there's no way to know how much it will cost...

Just more evidence that the LA Metro Board does not care about its actual riders.
So excited to release this research we've been cooking on for the last 6 months! And huge shout out to @joeyshoyer-yall.bsky.social who led much of the technical analysis. Going to share a couple interesting findings below
New research from the Data/Dev Team! We show that LA County can use value capture to fund nearly all High Speed Rail projects inside the county to the tune of over $15-23 while remaining net positive for the County budget. https://data.streetsforall.org/blog/cahsr_eifd/
Metro Exec Mgmt Cmte: now on Hahn motion for Pico Rivera commuter rail station. Hahn touts TOD opportunities. boardagendas.metro.net/board-report...
And tagline credit to @deadpanhope.bsky.social
its really weird to watch Sound Transit freak out about cost escalation and start aggressively value engineering. In LA the Metro Board will add billions to a transit project because of a dozen loud voices and leave it up to some future sucker to find money from the feds or something
😭😭
Horvath speaks of Metro working with homeowners opposed to tunneling. Notes that other parts of alignment go under properties. Staff testifies about successful past Metro
tunneling.
On K Line to Torrance pro-ROW/staff rec was crowded out by the other side (pro-Hawthorne). They packed the meeting room and we had folks (even reps of state assembly and senate) who were cut off from speaking due to time.
More Lafayette Square nimbys, one says “we are not against transit” [just against the transit project ~90 feet under our back yard]
Just like with K South in january, they advanced this out of planning and programming without recommendation as a precursor to an attempted ratfucking. The difference is this time, one board member - horvath - has made this her pet project for a decade, and isn't going to roll over the way everyone-
I would watch for a Board Motion to drop on Friday, and suggest direct lobbying to board members and their staff as early as possible with targeted talking points.
for the record if K north gets iced that will effectively guarantee that the metro board gets nuked. that will push the legislature over the edge.
My first big takeaway (beyond worsening the project and increasing costs for yet more nimby misinformation. What a theme for the K Line) is the hollywood bowl rec. It was SO expensive (over a billion for the single station) with anemic daily ridership (though even ridership would likely be -
In Dec we got South Bay COG to stay alignment neutral and rec a Climate Resilience District on K to Torrance.
Decennial Transfer is a must. I think there is an oppo for Redondo & Torrance (maaybe Lawndale) to do EIFD/CRD. Lotta new developments in Redondo & Torrance pre-SB 79 near Hawthorne Blvd.
Ditto the $731 million delta for the Hawthorne Option on the K Line to Torrance.
Could have bought all 148 residential homes on the ROW or handsomely compensated the homeowners, and then some.
It would have set an unfortunate precedent, but then so does the Hawthorne Option anyway.
Metro (and Metrolink, which has the same structure) is an international outlier in how politician-dominated it is. Are part time city council members the best people to be making technical decisions with generational and regional impact? Southern California needs IL's governance reforms!
Sounds about right
This puts me at 10 people released. I filed my 1st habeas petition 29 days ago. I am an incredibly small-time, nobody lawyer who knew nothing about immigration law the day I submitted that case. I barely know any more today. I had never sued the federal government and now I've beaten them 10 times.
Living in pre-Match Day limbo where I am not exactly sure where I’ll be living/training for the next three years. It’s unnerving!
Been going through a strange and hard few months. 4th year was supposed to be restful and easy. Now I’m fighting to reclaim sleep, happiness, and wellness 😢
Much as electrification to Pittsburgh would be good for me, personally, I do accept that it's probably better for the country if Alameda Corridors-San Bernardino-Cajon Pass-Barstow goes first, and by first I mean "preferably yesterday".
Well…I’ve been to quite a few contentious transit meetings myself 😢
