I proofread books for a living and, yes, it's incredibly obvious whenever an author didn't feel like writing that paragraph of what the landscape or the inside of a room looks like and just copied and pasted some generic slop from ChatGPT into their story.

Meine Briefwahlunterlagen lagen heute im Briefkasten. Meint ihr, das kommt noch rechtzeitig an? 🙃

(Im Ernst, ich wohne in Kanada und hatte das Mitte Januar beantragt, aber das wurde erst am 10.02. abgeschickt. Wieso so knapp?)

Took me almost 3 years to find one. Eventually found one through a thread on r/ontario where people were posting what GPs were currently accepting new patients.

Danke für den Hinweis! Wusste nicht, dass das schon so bald ist. Habe gerade meinen Antrag auf Eintragung in das Wählerverzeichnis und Zusendung der Wahlunterlagen abgeschickt. 👍

Yeah, he giggles like he's amused that he was able to remember the words

It's also how he puts emphasis on the last syllable in "verstehen" instead of the 2nd that makes it sound odd. He says "fair-stay-'en" while a native speaker would merge the last two syllables into something like "fair-'stain"

German here. There's definitely some sort of accent in his voice, and his tone when he says "Kannst du mich verstehen?" also sounds somewhat hesitant, as if he isn't sure that what he's saying is the correct response. As if it's a phrase he memorized and he's just hoping that it makes sense here.

We don't have LC, but my partner and I are still extremely CC while the rest of my family has "moved on", i.e. ignores all risks and doesn't wanna hear about Covid. So while we stayed home, my parents and grandmother just went on a 10-hour bus trip to a crowded holiday resort with 0 precautions. 🙃

Went to 3 different stores today. Apart from my husband and I there was only one other person wearing an N95. I was thrilled to see it until that person pulled down their mask below their chin at the checkout. Why would you need to pull down your mask just to tap your card?

I assume "masks" means surgical masks and not respirators?

Fun fact: "Schmetten" is a regional word for "cream", so "Schmetterling" roughly translates to "creamling". Apparently people used to believe that witches transformed into butterflies to steal people's dairy products which is kinda cute IMO. "Dang creamlings are trying to steal our yogurt again!" 😄

I like my doctor and appreciate that she herself always wears an N95, but the rest of the practice is a mix of no mask and baggy blues with half of them worn on the chin. No wonder the average person doesn't know how to mask properly when even in medical settings all they see is this mixed messaging

Just went to the eye doctor. A lady came in, looked at me in my N95, then at the receptionist with her surgical mask and asked, if she needed to wear a mask. "When you go to see the doctor, you need to." The lady pulled out a cloth mask. "Is this okay?" she asked. "Oh, yes, sure. That's fine."

Oh, so that's why the one store I order my inks from doesn't carry them anymore! I love to order surprise bags from there but was always hoping for no Noodler's since they tend to be too dry clog up my pen.

Who knows, maybe it's my former (now thankfully retired) ophthalmologist who tried to talk me out of getting a booster shot last year, claiming the COVID vaccine does all sorts of damage to the eyes. 🙄

I mostly use Twitter on desktop and have had the Blue Blocker extension running for the past couple of months. That thing has autoblocked over 23k blue check accounts since. It's glorious! Makes being on there way more tolerable.

Did it work?

So true. My mother stopped masking the moment she got vaccinated because she thought the vaccine offered 100% protection and masks were no longer required.
