This is a very good article, worth reading. The consequences of being able to completely insulate yourself from the world are bad.

PA environmental order stalls ICE sites, battle could last years An environmental agency under the Shapiro admin has taken an unusual approach to challenging ICE, and appeals could delay the project for years.

"The process could take years to play out."

Music to my ears... My @governor.pa.gov Josh Shapiro is a ROCKSTAR!!

PA DEP bars DHS/ICE from occupying the properties in Berks AND Schuylkill Counties until it complies with state environmental laws.

I've organized conferences and know how hard it is to get people to respond to follow-ups, so I get wanting to get all necessary info via the registration/speaker application form

But conference organizers should strongly reconsider asking for accessibility info as part of registration.

Brick house with a narrow front yard and flight of steps to the front porch -- typical Pittsburgh. The flowerbed above the retaining wall has pink peonies in bloom. At the front of the yard, there's a sign for Shapiro for Governor.

The peace of knowing you don’t have to fret about traffic or TSA, but just settle in with your book and snacks is a good thing!

The Pittsburgh airport has had a major renovation. I wonder if they still have the place that does chair massages?

Big abortion win in PA today - the ban on Medicaid funding is unconstitutional!

AND there's a fundamental right to abortion!

We won!

(Though this Commonwealth Court opinion can be appealed - we'll see what our AG does.)

West Deer fracking well raises concerns about noise, air quality in Bairdford Vicki Austin says her West Deer neighborhood can get pretty loud. Austin’s home is about 850 feet from EQT’s Leto fracking well, near the heart of the West Deer community of Bairdford. EQT took over the well from Olympus Energy LLC last year. “It’s like living in an industrial site,”

Residents worry the noise will get worse if @AlleghenyHealth approves EQT’s air quality permit request to install a tri-ethylene glycol dehydrator at the site, adding a higher level of pollution to an already high-level pollutant-producing site.

I recently dipped my toes into the science fiction and fantasy book discourse on Facebook, and I find I have things to say about the "Golden Age" of science fiction. By which I do not mean being twelve. Stick that in your back pocket, though, as it's really useful for understanding some people.

View of the opposite end of the tiny house, including the dining bar, kitchen area, bathroom, and stairs to the sleeping loft. Again, very cabin-y. A full-size washer and dryer are visible in the bathroom.

Also Pennsylvania: <3% renewable energy.

Meanwhile, Texas uses 32% renewable energy and Florida uses 10%. Here in PA, we’re paying more for outdated energy. https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTkuAYadV/

Just a little reminder that security experts routinely say that biometrics are actually do very poorly as a security measure.

Not just for technical reasons, either.

Imagine a password that you can't change after being informed it was compromised in a hack on a company that forgot to encrypt shit.

A tree peony shrub with large pink flowers with many petals.

I bought a plant at the Phipps May Market in 2017. It was in a 6-inch pot, and labeled "tree peony" -- no further description. For the first few years, it just seemed to have herbaceous stems, and single flowers, but then the woody branches made an appearance, with serious flowers!
