This has been an issue for soooo long - despite being one the most effective ways to support families! Seriously one of the most studied programs....
Can we do better now? Please?

They all paid a lower effective income tax rate than you: zero.
The incredible @alexfromnj.bsky.social was lead author on this landmark report. It is so so so timely. The world is burning and New Jersey should not be pouring gasoline on the fire.
“New Jersey families are getting hit twice,” said @alexfromnj.bsky.social.
“They’re paying more each month to subsidize data center expansion, and they’re breathing dirtier air because these facilities are keeping polluting power plants running.”

The report finds that a typical large AI data center uses as much energy as 100,000 households. Some facilities under construction will use 20 times that amount.
Large AI data centers used about 14 billion gallons of water in 2024, a number that could double by 2028.

🚨 New Report 🚨
AI data centers were the main driver of the 20% electric bill increase New Jerseyans saw last June. By 2030, these facilities will use 10% of our state's entire electricity supply.

A global oil shortage better start convincing people real fast that green energy isn't just necessary for adressing the fight against climate change, but also necessary for economic stability and independance.
One important piece of data from this piece: PSE&G made $1.7 billion in profits last year. ONE POINT SEVEN BILLION
Utility companies would rather invest in political candidates than give regular people affordable energy.
It’s total BS. We need to rein in these companies’ power!
Letting our kids be kids also means getting back to the basics. That’s why I support teaching the difference between marginal and effective tax rates.
movie about all the world's nations working together to stave off an environmental apocalypse succeeds by completely avoiding politics
every year they have a fancy seasonal spring matcha, this one is made with peaflower and jasmine syrup (hence the blue milk), and it’s also made by a squadron of queer people who work at the coffee shop in my town! 😂
Rising gas prices and higher grocery bills aren’t a coincidence—they’re the direct result of Trump's dangerous, destabilizing decisions that make life more expensive for all of us. time.com/article/2026/03/18/gas-g...
A perfect day in a walkable neighborhood: stopping at the Greek grocer for a slice of spinach pie, then at the coffee place for a gay little matcha drink, then reading under a budding cherry tree 💚
when I visited NOVA the other week I saw daffodils and it reminded me of my favorite poem of all time. enjoy 💛☀️
stop.
no.
do not do this.
broad-based taxation is the foundation of every progressive policy.
if no tax, then no schools, no trains, no buses, no health insurance, no child care.
what are you doing?
New Jersey is a great place to live! We can make it even better - but we need revenue to do that.
Everyone's favorite budget analyst stepped into the studio the other day to break down Gov. Sherrill's budget proposal! Check it out 😀
the number of theater kids at NJPP may surprise some and may not surprise others 😀
Money set aside to help fund clean energy should go toward just that — clean energy!
"The Clean Energy Fund should be spent on building more clean energy and making energy more affordable for all New Jerseyans, especially those already struggling with higher bills,” said @alexfromnj.bsky.social.
"Additions require subtractions."
It's true that governments need to balance budgets.
But cuts are not the only way! Schools, health care, transportation -- they're funded through TAXATION.
Billionaires and big biz have enriched themselves at our expense. Taxation can get that money back to NJ
The Governor's first budget proposal confronts the difficult fiscal reality NJ finds itself in.
It prioritizes families and key programs like schools and pensions.
BUT the goal of expanding opportunity will mean giving families more supports, building stronger govt programs, and taxing the rich.
So beyond disappointing to hear Governor @mikiesherrill.bsky.social talk about affordability and opportunity but make no mention of our most vulnerable populations - immigrants, incarcerated or formerly incarcerated people, and their children. And poverty? Did not hear that word once.
Governor Sherrill’s first Budget in Brief is out! NJPP analysts are combing through as we speak. We’ll have a report card for y’all in the very near future 👀 👀 👀 www.nj.gov/treasury/omb...
It's true that NJ and states need more tools to claw back the wealth that has been extracted from our state by big tech CEOs.
But the most powerful tool at our disposal is taxation, ensuring that companies cannot escape their responsibilities by hiding behind shell companies and paper losses
We don’t need to cut to add new programs or expand existing ones.
We can close more corporate loopholes to make sure the wealthiest companies in the world are paying their fair share.
Government CAN keep us safe from the harms of AI, especially from the economic and environment harm of data centers.
We need to start charging these companies more for their energy use, require them to report on their energy and water use, AND require them to build more clean energy.
Sherrill mentions structural deficit and the need to shore up the state's cash reserves.
Sounds like someone I know! newjerseyglobe.com/state-govern...
Gov Sherrill rightly points out the skyrocketing expansion of corporate tax breaks ($2.5B) in the lame duck legislature.
As I pointed out at the time, these expansions will hurt future budget years.
Glad to hear the Gov voice the need for a better budget process

Reducing the income cap and benefit amount of Stay NJ saves money and ensures that wealthy homeowners are not disproportionately benefiting.
This was our proposal from last year. Looks pretty similar, with some differences (Sherrill proposal has higher income cap $250k and lower benefit cap $4k)
