Corner of my eye,
a large-winged shadow appears,
an eagle above.
Sweethearts in the snow,
dancing on the quiet street,
amongst the snowflakes.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Footprints in the snow,
grooves soften under blankets,
proof of existence.
A flash of light,
seeds that explode into view,
in an instant gone.
My arms held out wide,
I glide on the thick clear ice,
it feels like flying.
Dark sky overhead,
streams of lights in red and blue,
kaboom fireworks.

A meal with good friends,
laughing and enjoying life,
is time not wasted.
Eyes closed colors show,
emerald green and deep blues,
blanket my eyelids.
Story in a stone,
keeping memories enclosed,
etched in nature's words.
A cup of tea vibes,
warmth hugging my cool hands,
content and present.
Eagles for neighbors,
they perch high up on a tree,
I gaze from below
Today feels like spring,
tomorrow might be real cold, that is Wisconsin.
My grandpa always said, "if you do not like the weather wait ten minutes and it will change." The winter fluctuates greatly in the winter that it is comical. That is Wisconsin.
Brassy tunes, drum beats,
a poetry without words,
that is jazz music.
I saw a live jazz band tonight and the leader of the band made a comment about poetry is music and the performers write their poems in a universal language of music. I closed my eyes and felt it in my being. It really resonated.
Lavender flowers,
subtle sweetness in the air,
drifts me off to sleep.
My fiancé said,
write an imperfect haiku,
this is what I wrote.
*I tried to write a haiku about perfectionism but it was too hard. My goal is to write a haiku a day and even if it is a bad one, I am being brave and trying. Here's to many more haiku. Some will be bad and some will be good.
I took a long nap,
it was supposed to be short,
I love to take naps.
風の日に
雪が降ったら、
キラキラよ。
The snow falls on a windy day and it is glistening.
*this is not what actually happened today but this is my first attempt at writing a haiku in Japanese. I was told a true haiku has a nature theme so I talked about a snowy day
A sparkling girl,
it is her birthday today,
she is full of light.
Wrapped up in blankets,
I slowly drift off to sleep,
dreaming of warm days.
Fluttering white snow,
dances and twirls around me,
sparkling my hair.
Frost on the rooftops,
the crisp air kisses my cheeks,
I hurry inside.
A haiku a day,
May be difficult but fun,
let's give it a try.
