The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”

A simple way to expand toward transit/biking trips in your city: Offer new arrivals a welcome package including a transit pass and free bikeshare trips.
These are the moments when people form new travel habits, so it's a great time for nudges!
What do y'all think about submission holds? I don't do them because the worst feeling I've ever had as a writer was when an editor sent a hold but ended up rejecting my story. Don't get my hopes up! But maybe I'm in the minority on that?
Thumbs up. It helps to know a sub didn't drop into a black hole and useful data to know if it's making it to second readings, final lists, etc. before getting cut. I'm more likely to persist with a piece in pro-rate markets or just keep it on sub longer when I get that kind of signal, personally.
When you use AI to do your writing, you are telling your audience: “I deserve your attention, but you do not deserve my effort.”
"We must get rid of Palantir altogether.
They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed."

"When I started writing about the climate crisis in the 1980s I was in my twenties, and I didn’t fully comprehend that there could be a force on this planet so steeped in greed & power that it would sacrifice the earth & its inhabitants for its own narrow interests. But there is, and it’s Big Oil."
Absolutely disgusting that a driver would do this during the memorial event for a child killed by a driver.....let that sink in 😢

ohhhhhh no thank you
Sounds like my (Scottish) great grandmother's recipe, but alas, those legendary meals were before my time. Apparently she had the teensiest kitchen, from which she produced multiple desserts (& just shocking volumes of food) and the pour got heavier in the mix every year as she aged🍻

Indie Authors, if you have any interest in D2D; read this thread!
Delilah pulls out some key facts that have just come to light from D2D, and cuts into a lot of speculation about what's going on and the intent behind it, answering many questions we've been asking ourselves.
It's official. The Democratic Party is divided on continued military support for Israel, and leaning in the direction of withdrawing support. If you care about this issue, you should call your senator and praise or complain, depending.

130+ Palestinian grad students admitted to 🇨🇦 universities are trapped in a 23-month limbo. IRCC is demanding biometrics from a war zone—a move that is both unrealistic and unjust.
The precedent exists: we did this for Ukraine & Syria. We must do it now. #cdnpoli #Gaza
