AnyAustin is the J Kenji Lopez-Alt of 'Video Game Minutiae No One Thought To Do Science About'
I think people assume it's some awful smug CinemaSins of "everything is a trope, actually" but it's just a very thorough record of human patterns in storytelling, made by people whose hobby is discovering and labelling new ones! THAT'S COOL AS HELL
Oops All Rikers

GOD I love it. except when it makes me realise that all my favourite characters to write are just versions of Zuko. I love to write a Zuko, LEAVE ME ALONE
(my hot take corollary to this is that many writers are too precious about what they believe is "bad" in writing. The Hero's Journey, Hierarchy of Needs, Stages of Grief, whatever. They're fine creative seeds, and point-blank rejecting them is cynical at best, and prescriptive at worst)
my tip that I'm sure many writers will find objectionable:
TV Tropes is a great resource. It's just a catalogue/dictionary! Tropes are not bad, they are human creative tools; relatable story hooks. If you're stuck writing something, find other examples of similar tropes, and see what they did!
Happy birthday, drugs
Prince Peach, a male mii version of princess peach in the video game Tomodachi Life, wears a t-shirt that reads "I could eat a peach for hours" with a winky face emoticon

When a game provides lore, we should remember to include who in the game-world is saying it - @hollynielsen.bsky.social explains why.

if it's non-fictional (ie journalism) writing, more specific tips:
1. I always delete the first two paragraphs because they are bad, because I was warming up. so write whatever you want for the warm-up!
2. record yourself talking about the topic and then transcribe it, then edit it down
two tips!
1. You can't make a sandcastle without first making a big pile of sand. tell yourself you're just shovelling sand and let it be a bit shit first
2. set a timer for 10 or even 5 minutes and just write placeholder nonsense. things like "character says stuff in reply". super basic
