Thrilled to have a new article in PRQ in time for the end of Pride month. doi.org/10.1177/1065... It demonstrates that having 2SLGBTQI+ candidates running in an electoral district is correlated to higher turnout among 2SLGBTQI+ voters - even in a relatively accepting place like 🇨🇦. #affinityeffects.
Congrats on getting this excellent article published!

European Network Against Racism is funding an awesome new ambassador programme aimed at building a dedicated community and overcoming the horrors of genocide. More at justiceprogramme.eu
Every faculty who supported police on campus, every one who refused to sign letters of support for their brutalized students: you laid the bricks for politicians to believe they have the authority to crush student voice.
Your racism against Palestine is corroding everyone's freedoms.

New PostDoc position with @lizamugge.bsky.social at UvA: VICI project Political Masculinities in Europe. Amazing opportunity to work on a very urgent topic with fun people and be part of a great and important project. werkenbij.uva.nl/en/vacancies...
It’s so dark and gloomy outside today in NL that the train conductor just wished us all “a pleasant evening”. It’s 10:40 AM 🙃
That’s great! Glad it is of use to you. I can highly recommend this chapter by Birgit Sauer as well (also the rest of the book actually): www.degruyter.com/document/doi...
I believe I may also fit the bill :)
Don’t know about calling myself “great”, but would definitely like to be in!
The starter pack I was searching for but couldn't find.
Great for scholars, journalists, and anyone looking for research-based takes on current events.
Please reply to this message or DM if you want me to add you, or anyone else, to the list 😊

Oh, thanks a lot! And yes that would make perfect sense! Strange also that Bluesky doesn’t notify me of being added to a list, or am I missing something?
Well since all of a sudden I got many new followers on here (no idea why-please tell me where you found me), I might as well share that I was recently interviewed about political masculinity (loosely) in connection with the US elections. www.ru.nl/en/research/...
I received further awesome thoughts from folks at the PoliticologenEtmaal in 2023: @edegraauw.bsky.social, @nellageurts.bsky.social, @lizamugge.bsky.social, @takesipma.bsky.social, Zahra Runderkamp and Samira Azabar.
I presented a draft at @ecpr.bsky.social Joint Sessions 2022 panel "sexuality & political participation" hosted by @grahn.bsky.social and @turnbulldugarte.bsky.social. Very thankful for great feedback from them and @bertous.bsky.social, @wurthmann.bsky.social, and @michaelhunklinger.bsky.social.
These detailed and topical questions provide a nuancing of how PRR voters attitudes align in profiles of preferences, which might help understand PRR success and the competition of PRR parties with others (including other PRR).
Considering the mainstay & increasing influence of the PRR, we encourage adding the questions used here from DPES to other political survey studies, especially the civic/ethnic nationalism, populism & topical gender identity- and sexuality-related items. @eesresearch.bsky.social
Dutch PRR-inclined voters may have an atypically modern attitude on gender & sexuality, but the profiles identified are likely present across Western Europe, with different relative prevalence. We thus provide a blueprint for addressing types of PRR voters in other contexts too.
In contrast with civic-nationalism, support for ethno-nativism varies. We show that ethno-nativist attitudes align most with conservative positions on gender and sexuality, and religion. Both the gender-modern and gender-moderate classes are clearly less ethno-nativist.
Civic-nationalism, resistance to colonial reparations & anti-eu sentiment are high for all 4 core classes. Issues salient in PRR discourse are thus crucial in voter attitudes too. We add that these are non-negotiable & hardly covary with other attitudes, incl. gender & sexuality.
Our analysis shows support for gender & sexuality issues was comparatively high across the board for PRR-inclined voters in the Netherlands in 2021. However, across all classes, support for gay rights is marginally higher than support for trans-rights and non-binarity.
An 'atypical' class, ~8% of PRR-inclined voters, is interesting for future research. These voters do not have any typical PRR attitude but still consider voting PRR. They are urban voters, more likely from migration background, and often answer they 'don't know' politicians.
We also found a class of around 1/4 of PRR-inclined voters that is more moderate or divided on most issues, including populism, ethno-nativism (but not civic-nationalism), as well as the gender & sexuality items. They are also less opposed to refugees but not less anti-Islam.
Another class, ~1/3 of PRR-inclined voters, is highly ethno-nativist (as much as the conservative group), but divided on the gender- and sexuality items. The only other significant difference with the conservative group is that they are more opposed to religion in politics.
A larger class, ~1/4 of PRR-inclined voters, is more progressive on all gender & sexuality items than the general electorate. Compared to conservatives, they are less ethno- but equally civic-nationalist (obey laws & customs to be 'Dutch') and equally opposed to Islam & refugees.
In 2021, under 10% of Dutch PRR-inclined voters were truly conservative on all gender & sexuality items. These are more ethno-nativist than other classes, as they find Dutch parents & birth more important for 'being Dutch'. They are also less opposed to religion in politics.
