The cover for the short story owl/dyke by a.c.d

a 4k-word short story about Lune, a lesbian living in an apartment full of ghosts, who decides to become an owl. It's harder than s/he thought.

originally published in Sinister Wisdom Issue 139: Mad Dykes, Queer Worlds.

A tan, paper-textured image with brown accents. The words “CELEBRATING OBESITY!” sit at the top in a large bubble font. A round botanical drawing is faded into the background of the image. Two round abstract shapes almost like a person kneeling frame the top paragraph. The text reads, in alternating cursive and bubble fonts: “You are invited—cordially of course—to the wedding of A.C.D & THE FAT THAT HANGS OFF HER BULGING STOMACH. On the EVERY DAY of the EVERY MONTH of the EVERY YEAR. At THE SOFT FEELING OF SUNLIGHT DANCING ACROSS HER EXPOSED THIGHS. Join the 300 POUNDS OF WONDERFUL, UNDULATING FLESH for a night to remember and a large, full life to treasure. The DENSITY OF LOVE, the WEIGHT OF HUMOR, and the HEAVINESS OF SPIRIT to follow. P.S. All gifts in the form of advice, diet pills, or similar smelling bullshit will be torn open and stabbed with a thin person’s fragile rib. P.P.S. The happy couple is only accepting well wishes, poor wishes or any wishes in between in the form of COLD HARD CASH. P.P.P.S. Pay up, shut up, crack like the twig you are.”

@acd.works's "CELEBRATING OBESITY" was our first acceptance for this issue, and an enthusiastic one –– a satirical + deeply serious piece on self-love and a refusal of anti-fatness.

Welcome to issue 11! It shaped up to be thick with liberatory gestures – on disability, fatness, Blackness, youth, and more.

Creatives across/against genre and medium tackle pressing issues of disposibility and resistance.

+ stopping these atrocities, but it does give me a little more control over what i'm contributing to. i'm selling things. i'm engaging in The Economy and Capital. i have a responsibility to understand what that engagement really means and factor that into my decision making.

+ i realized i had no idea where my stickers were being printed and by who or how much they were being paid. obviously the supply chain into the imperial core is riddled with atrocities (who is making the vinyl sticker paper i use? who made my cricut? etc etc) so doing it "myself" isn't +

that thread was already too long so i didn't want to add more, but another reason i added the materials section to my about is because i think everyone should be upfront about how they're making physical goods and where their materials are coming from. i stopped using a printing service because +

+ knowledge that so many others spread to me. i also work in a lot of spaces where knowledge hierarchies cause these huge blindspots that are dangerous if they aren't filled. part of my efforts to reduce those (with things like my degoogle workshops) have been super eye-opening. people WANT to do +

+ encouraging was a huge reason why i started making weird PDFs and handing them out in the digital sphere. now that i table at markets and zinefests, i've acted as a lot of people's first introduction to the concept of making their own art. i get questions about it! it's really cool to spread the +

i've been thinking a lot lately about knowledge hierarchies and the accessibility of creating things. recently i tabled at an art market where someone was confused by my minizines but when i explained them, they were so excited because they wanted to make one. zine culture being very DIY and +

this zine took me a million years to make because i collaged everything meticulously by hand! there was a lot of trial and error and things i would've changed about the process, but i'm very proud of the final result regardless!
