(Final boss of course is OKC’s double Jalen/Jaylin Williams)

There’s a clear path to the championship for the Knicks where every game is a Jalen faceoff
thanks Zack!
No pub date yet but likely fall of 2027!
New book coming next year. Working title, THE GRAYSCALE: True Stories of Hackers, Outlaws and Rogues From the Digital Underground.
Thanks to @wired.com and @mitpress.bsky.social for making this one possible!
(grammar not functioning today but you get the idea)
Thank you Nate, that truly means a lot to hear from you!

Our April digital cover is sick
We reviewed an 18-page report detailing the second-by-second surveillance of a trans woman. They followed her as she went in and out of the bathroom, even though she posed 'no threat."
It's one of a bunch of new details in this deep dive that @robertsilverman.bsky.social and I took for @wired.com
NEW: Teenage boys are pulling classmates' photos off Insta and running them through cheap nudify apps and the fallout has now hit nearly 90 schools across 28 countries with 600+ known victims since 2023, per a WIRED/Indicator analysis.
UNICEF estimates 1.2M children were targeted last year alone.
Finally read Bottom's Up And the Devil Laughs by @kerryhowley.bsky.social. Can't think of a time when I've read nonfiction writing so smart and inventive that even events/people I had thought I'd read about before, even ones I've reported and written about myself, felt 100% new. Incredible book.
Crypto tracing firm Elliptic found recent posts on Xinbi Guarantee selling products like handcuffs and tasers for human traffickers, as well as apparent teen sex trafficking. Elliptic also found Xinbi has done $500 million more in transactions in the weeks *just since the sanctions were announced.*
Coming up on 3 weeks since Telegram-based black market Xinbi Guarantee, which has done $21 *billion* in transactions, was sanctioned by the UK gov for enabling crypto scamming and human trafficking. Yet Telegram, which could ban Xinbi at any time, is still hosting it. www.wired.com/story/telegr...
More than *70* orgs are warning Meta that integrating facial recognition into smart glasses is a terrible, dangerous idea.
Five years from now, when the consequences are abundantly clear and prevalent, people will point at this warning (as has happened with Meta and Big Tech, time and time again):
Join me + actor/author/crypto skeptic Ben McKenzie (@benmckenzie.bsky.social) next week for WIRED's first WIRED@NIGHT live event. We'll talk about his doc "Everyone is Lying to You for Money," crypto, scams...and whether crypto is a scam?

As Trump threatens scorched-earth attacks on Iran, a joint advisory from US agencies warns Iran-linked hackers have hit US critical infrastructure: "In a few cases, this activity has resulted in operational disruption and financial loss." www.wired.com/story/iran-l...
All this "madman" talk gives too much credit. Threatening to destroy an entire civilization because you started a war and increased gas prices might even be rational. But it's abject evil.
“A whole civilization will die tonight” is the most vile thing a US president has ever said, certainly during the post-1945 era when they’ve had the power to kill civilizations with the dropping of a bomb. I’m staring into the darkness. May this not be one of the most fateful days in human history.
Hope everyone is enjoying the precedents our government is setting entirely without even an illusion of democratic process or control.

A WIRED analysis of DHS records identified dozens of specialized federal agents who used force against US civilians during the largest known deployment of its kind in US history. www.wired.com/story/border...
elegant, important pieces like this -- at WIRED -- show that the glory days of american magazine writing are not behind us:

This is the second time in a month that Apple has pushed patches for older versions of iOS in response to a sophisticated iPhone hacking technique in the wild, after backporting patches for iOS 17 devices to protect them from the Coruna iOS hacking toolkit. www.wired.com/story/coruna...
Two weeks after the DarkSword iOS hacking tool was revealed, Apple is taking the rare step of pushing a security fix to older iOS 18 iPhones rather than just telling users to update to iOS 26, as it had previously done. (Which left millions of iOS 18 users vulnerable.) www.wired.com/story/apple-...

Tech VC: I won't invest in any startup whose founders haven't read my favorite canonical dystopian sci-fi cautionary tale, the Torment Nexus.
WIRED: But you're not going to...build the Torment Nexus, right
Tech VC: Woke WIRED has declared war on its readers
Yes, Iranian group Handala hacked Kash Patel's (older, personal) email—not the FBI, as they claimed. This week they also put a $50M bounty on Trump and "doxed" Lockheed Martin staff. (We checked: mostly non-working phone numbers) www.wired.com/story/irania...
Chaotic, dangerous but...kind of silly.
