The third EM structure of a Bfu type bifurcating complex coming out of the Adams - Li collaboration. Wor-Bfu is a cool W containing complex that can detoxify aldehydes and found in a number of gut organisms. It is our third article in PNAS on W in the gut microbiome🧪

The resolution of blue sucks. It is a good second column if your protein cooperates.

Blue can be the best purification ever or you never see your protein again. You can do a salt gradient to 2 M followed by a nad(p) block elution.

Cryo-EM Structures Define the Electron Bifurcating Flavobicluster and Ferredoxin Binding Site in an Archaeal Nfn-Bfu Transhydrogenase Flavin-based electron bifurcation couples exergonic and endergonic redox reactions in one enzyme complex to circumvent thermodynamic barriers and minimize free energy loss. Two unrelated enzymes desig...

#2 out of 3 bfu family bifurcating structure with our CryoEM collaborators.

Cryo-EM reveals a composite flavobicluster electron bifurcation site in the Bfu family member NfnABC - Communications Biology Structural analysis of a thermophilic bacterial NfnABC complex reveals for the first time that the minimum electron bifurcating site of the Bfu family is a flavobicluster consisting of FMN, a [4Fe-4S]...

The first of a series of 3 cryoEM structures from our collaborative efforts is shedding some light in the Bfu type electron bifurcating complexes. The Bfu type bifurcating complexes utilize a combination of flavin and iron sulfur clusters to bifurcate electron pairs.
