A total flop of a movie because you should never cater your film to the most toxic people of a fandom. The idea that Rey could be a Jedi coming from a humble background was such a novel and exciting idea, only to retcon in this film with extreme laziness is a stain on the film forever.
Seeking out shows with huge online followings is, to me, a tacit - if not explicit - admission that their business model isn't working as well as it's meant to. Surely - SURELY! - it is meant to be the platform's job to bring YOU a big audience, not the other way round.
I think this is the exact reason the industry feels so fucked. The algorithm-driven models for both streamers and social media might sound like good business, but siphoning customers off into increasingly specific pigeon holes means audiences don't get exposed to unexpected things they might like.
