Aw, this warms my heart! Not planning a sequel, but I think there's always so much more love to be given and to receive in a person's life, so there's always joy ahead for all the characters

I came to Tehanu a bit late, but so did Le Guin, and I think I came to it precisely at the perfect time. Her writing always transfixes me, poetic, elegant, and simple, and Tehanu is such a lovely exploration of power and gender.
A reminder that eels are *the* most smuggled animal on earth, and that the global black market for eels is worth an estimated $4-5 billion.
Interpol has called it “Europe’s ivory trade.”

Just finished reading Vagabonds. It was fucking good. 'Freedom will have to be imagined by the shapeshifters, actors, invisibles, ghosts, magicians, vagabonds, outcasts, outsiders. Always the only hope.'
Anyone looking for an editor? I’ve been doing a lot of film teases and trailers lately but have experience in pretty much everything: shorts, features, music videos, corporate, promotional/online context, educational, showreels etc.
Any shares greatly appreciated, trying to keep food on the table 🙏

Final Destination: Bloodlines is such a fun time, my heart really warmed seeing Tony Todd one more time.
I finished my first play through of Disco Elysium today. And then I watched Possession (1981) for the first time. And it felt like a perfect double bill.
Allow me to bitch about something no one but me & some people watching @netflix.com care about for a second.
I loved THE DEVIL'S PLAN S1. Really difficult gameplay for really smart people & a dog fight of a triumphant finish.
Season 2 is...not that. A fun, smart gameshow has been ruined. How? /1

OK, this is wild.
In September 2023, geophysicists across the world started monitoring a very odd signal coming from the ground under them.
It was picked up in the Arctic. And Antarctica. It was detected everywhere, every 90 seconds, as regular as a metronome, for *nine days*.
What the HELL?

Creatives in the UK deserve strong trade unions that represent their interests and fight for a better creative ecology. We don't have that yet and I know a lot of people have felt let down by the society of authors, but we can change it for the better.

Every climate justice writer belongs in their union.
The Society of Authors claims to be committed to sustainability. But climate justice is about more than sustainable sources of paper – it’s about power. In calling for individual authors to hold their publishers to account, the SoA is… [1]

The Society of Authors does not stand for a free Palestine. Not yet.
Amid Israel’s destruction of libraries, bookshops, printing presses and publishing houses in Gaza, the SoA’s lack of solidarity is driving members to leave the union. [1]
Megathread of pro-trans petitions on Parliament’s petition website. If Labour suddenly gets hit with debates for a bunch of pro-trans petitions, maybe they’ll realise this issue isn’t going away and they’ve fucked up.
I’ll add more as I find them.

My pal Dr Christina Neuwirth has today released the results of 7 years of research into gender inequality in Scottish literature. I'm so, so proud of them.

A still from the film Monster (2023). Two boys are running through green foliage and sunflowers. They are wet and muddy and look happy.
I love stories where each new perspective unpeels everything you thought you knew and Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster does that masterfully. Such an achingly beautiful film that treats its characters with immense sensitivity.
