i'm sold on the opening narration now btw, the lighter (but still reasoned, intelligent, and deeply compassionate) voice he gives dg in the car scene contrasted with his batman-like interior is an excellent characterization choice

so it didn't really feel like watters! because he couldn't do much while he was busy powerwashing taylor's stink off the character and the setting! but this IS very very watters and i love itttt even a few pages in

i obviously have been caping for watters since like 2024, i loved sword of azrael and was really excited to see him announced on nw, and the biggest disappointment for me with watters/soy was that it was coming off taylor so watters had to spend so much fucking time fixing what taylor broke

urban supernatural/urban horror well + can write a killer batman comic. this is already feeling much more like the samsara arc in grayson's gotham knights than like idk, urban fantasy werewolves or whatever worst case scenario people were assuming

i saw a lottt of people criticizing this run in advance (as we loathsome comics fans do with everything) for being "too supernatural" and basically sounding like it's going to be too much of a dan watters run. which frankly i didn't agree with to begin with, watters has more than proven he can do

GREAT DG VOICE, GREAT ART TEAM!! i'm loving these panel layouts and composition choices, feels both comicky and cinematic

big improvement on the dg face in this run, not a fan of the super wide chin from some angles but overall i feel like this looks much more like my boy than soy's style does. reminds me of some of the post-hester/park artists on nw '96 (makes sense coming from cowan)

STUNNING colors, so glad they have segala on this, captures both the weird beauty of cities/highways and the like disturbing unnatural displacement of the city by the superhighway

this reads more like bruce than dg to me but not in a bad way. they are very similar people at their cores and they are more alike in their views of their cities than they are different. i missed you nightmobile. colors and lines are gorgeous, love dg's stringy unmaintained hair
