If memo #047 passes tonight, that would make $6,192,444 spent on hiring teachers from the $10M the district received after the Legislature overrode Gov. Dunleavy’s veto of HB 57.

8 months ago 3 0 0 0

ASD Chief HR Officer Marty Lang told the school board that all 20 teaching positions have been filled from the $2.6M appropriated on Aug. 5 to hire those 20 teachers.

122 vacancies remain, down from 148 at the start of last year.

The board will vote on another $3.5M for 27 more teachers shortly.

As the Trump administration works to end nearly all federal support for public broadcasting, the loss of that money for the state’s public radio and TV stations could jeopardize remote Alaskans’ access to news, and public safety.
