If memo #047 passes tonight, that would make $6,192,444 spent on hiring teachers from the $10M the district received after the Legislature overrode Gov. Dunleavy’s veto of HB 57.
ASD Chief HR Officer Marty Lang told the school board that all 20 teaching positions have been filled from the $2.6M appropriated on Aug. 5 to hire those 20 teachers.
122 vacancies remain, down from 148 at the start of last year.
The board will vote on another $3.5M for 27 more teachers shortly.

The Anchorage School Board passed an $886M budget 6-1 tonight that cuts middle school sports, high school hockey, swimming and gymnastics and the IGNITE program for gifted students.
An amendment that passed details how $71M in additional funding would be spent, in the event of a $1,00 BSA increase.
Some positions and programs could be restored if the state adds funding. But the Anchorage School Board president warned that the longer it takes to sort out a funding package, the more difficult it becomes to reverse some of the cuts. www.adn.com/alaska-news/...
