Absolutely ridiculous, regardless how it happened.

I got one for a James E Gunn anthology published before I was born a few weeks ago

Which... I did study under him in college, and wrote a long eulogy for him when he passed a few years back, so I'm guessing some LLM had that in their dataset and got things mixed up for the scammer's prompt?

With the help of the Sandy Hook families, The Onion has reached a long-awaited deal to take over InfoWars.

We've enlisted the help of @timheidecker.bsky.social, who will be InfoWars' Creative Director.

Please stand by for more.

This is a valid point: whenever you see this sort of high-pressure sales tactic turned on a technology, you can be CERTAIN that it's a fake—actually useful new tech sells itself!

And don't underestimate the effectiveness of FOMO as a tool in the hands of a con artist.

Politics News Site NOTUS to Become ‘The Star’

This is great. A nonprofit news operation in DC set to expand in the wake of Bezos' gutting of the Post. Hiring many laid-off Post journalists.

A nonprofit is the ONLY way forward if we want to rebuild the watchdog press that the oligarchs and hedge funds have destroyed.

(Fun fact, Jesus was a Pharisee! He fought with other Pharisees because that's what they did with each other CONSTANTLY. They were the philosophical ancestors of modern Rabbinical Judaism, and their behavior is intimately familiar to modern leftists lol.)

*Sighing heavily at modern evangelical Christians refusing to learn what a Pharisee actually was.*

Seriously, like... I don't expect every Christian to understand 2000 year old Jewish religious politics, but they keep making stupid analogies like this because they don't learn even the basics.

As a Stegosaurus enjoyer, I'm happy they at least made the list- never been one of the most popular, even if they're far from obscure.

"Writing with [insert stylistic quirk] is a giveaway that it's AI."
"You can tell this drawing is AI because [insert stylistic quirk]."

My sweet little children, WE DID THOSE THINGS FIRST. AI didn't invent the Oxford comma or the em dash - we used them correctly, and AI *stole our work*.

Eating a piece of tortilla chip that's been lying on the floor for a couple days without thinking is behavior well-suited to the professional dignity of a novelist, right?

Asking for, uh, a friend.

current me: okay so there’s a big fight between the government and the catholic church

teenage me: got it, so we’re obviously on the side of the government

current me: I, uh, you might want to sit down for this one

A very long infographic about Urban Fantasy Names. The gist: there are four steps to create an urban fantasy name: 1) Common + Uncommon = add an uncommon name to a common one, 2) Occupation/ Trait = make one of those names an occupation or trait, 3) Double Down = combine points one and two, 4) Supporting Cast = use this template for supporting characters if not for your protagonist. There are several examples for each of these four points, as well as two grids so you can create your own urban fantasy name.

Urban Fantasy is easy once you know the rules.

My UF name will henceforth be Flint Bishop.

What's yours?

Seeing a lot of very justified "kids will get it anyway!" posts around this but I don't want to miss the more basic point: *it is fine if kids read books with (healthy) sex scenes.* Like literally 100% fine. Not a problem.

I CHALLENGE you all to stop labeling big, teethy, faux-treasure chests Mimics.

A Mimic isn't a fake treasure chest. It's a monster that can look like something it's not to draw in prey. It can look like ANYTHING. That's why it's called a MIMIC.

DRAW IT AS SOMETHING ELSE. *ANYTHING* ELSE.

“I will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture ‘not just X but y’ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!”

(I call it socialist sword and sorcery, but there's lots of anarchist influence too, I just really like alliteration.)

I wrote a socialist sword and sorcery novel set on the habitable moon of a gas giant, featuring a mimic-based ecosystem, uncounted millions of gods, carnivorous public transit, and a pseudomedieval megastructure arcology spreading uncontrollably across the landscape!
