Every morning, I say time for coffee, and they run to the slider to go downstairs. Sound on for dooking noises

In my defense, I’m tired… but this just happened.

I was at a rest stop and saw this tall poodle with a fancy haircut and really interesting black, white, and gray coloring.

My brain: it’s probably AI

Seriously

My own eyeballs are seeing this in real time and space…

My ICQ UIN is 7231680. That number is burned into my consciousness. I inadvertently learned that you could see private conversations in public chat rooms when using Telnet instead of a browser on GeoCities. I can tell you the difference in audible dial-up handshakes between 1200, 2400, 14.4 kbps modems. I needed a edu email address to join Facebook after my university was admitted. We were here at the beginning. We made social media. You wouldn't be in my Top 8. I have usernames older than you.

Anyone else find they can actually focus on a task better when they have something else in the background (news, podcast, etc)? It's like "let's keep all the voices in my head entertained" so I can actually get this task done without interruption... 😜

What we as teachers really need to reduce our workload – is time, not AI As an educator, I have a heavy workload. I am keen to try any new ways of reducing that load to free me to be my enthusiastic, energetic, creative best in the classroom. Throughout my career I confess to being a workaholic - hyper fixating on exciting ideas for teaching and learning, preparing elaborate lessons and topics – resulting in delivering engaging learning - but also burning myself out.

Generative AI is not the magic solution to teacher workload we are being told it is. What we as teachers really need to reduce our workload - is time, not AI. -And possibly less nonsense paperwork!

I think we need a channel that is just cute animals and good news. Marathons of "Too Cute" and Ghibli movies as well as nightly "Here's What's Good in the World" news segments. Give the fluff pieces a home.

I enjoy making prints from wrinkled up plastic bags, and then looking for faces and figures in the patterns.

Monotype. Acrylic on paper.

It’s going to sound quaint, but the best way to resist an AI takeover of the humanities is to assign physical books, sit around, read them, and argue about ideas. Academic has become such a competitive arena, that we ourselves are trained to look for the winning angle, instead of the best education.

One of my pastels from nearly 30 years ago showing a path across Jesus Green in Cambridge. I think this was late in the year with a few leaves hanging on to the trees with some autumn colour remaining. It was bought by a late friend and is now with his family.

A pigeon perches atop a window feeder, staring intently into the window. On the inside of the window a small shelf filled with plants makes it look like the pogeon is perched amidst them.

So anyways, this pigeon has noticed that the sparrows and finches get food from the window feeder, and has been trying to figure it out. Also, I think it spotted me. 👀 #birds

Good morning. Happy weekend. Blue again here today, though it’s currently -3 and we did have a snow flutter yesterday! Still, it was light beyond 5:30 which brings me great joy. Evidence of the light at 5:15 at our scoured out beach.

Have a great weekend.

I keep finding pan pastel sponges everywhere. One of my #ferrets knocked a container full of them off of the art table onto the floor. I was in a meeting, so I decided I would deal with it later. I glanced back five minutes later, and half the sponges were gone.

The hunt continues…

When photographing wildlife, I love to capture the more artistic and subtle aspects: Soft afternoon light graces an elephant's beautifully textured face in Namibia's Etosha National Park.
