AOC Renews Call to Oust Trump After Report on His Exclusion From Situation Room truthout.org/articles/aoc...
(Each vote takes about 20 seconds.)
Virginia Republicans suddenly find a pro-slavery legacy they don't like.
It’s late, watching the playoffs, looked up and saw Steppenwolf … gotta get off line.
VA Redistricting The Virginia Supreme Court ruled on Wednesday that an April 21 vote on a constitutional amendment allowing the state to implement a new congressional map could proceed, staying a lower court order that had blocked the election. In a six-page opinion, the justices unanimously said that state law strongly counsels against judicial intervention to halt an election. They noted that concerns about the election’s legality could be addressed afterward and emphasized that they were not ruling on the merits of any such arguments. Should the amendment pass and future legal challenges fail, Virginia would adopt a new map that would give Democrats the chance to win 10 of the state’s 11 congressional districts.
VA Redistricting A judge in a deep-red county in southwestern Virginia issued a ruling on Thursday halting the April 21 vote on whether the state should adopt a new congressional map drawn by Democrats, saying that Republicans were likely to succeed in their arguments that the legislature had failed to follow proper procedures in putting the amendment before voters. The order bars officials from making any further preparations for the election, for which early voting was set to begin on March 6. Democrats, however, immediately said they would appeal. Late last month, the same judge, Jack Hurley of the Tazewell County Circuit Court, issued a similar but much narrower ruling. The state Supreme Court soon clarified that the election could proceed, given the limited scope of Hurley’s original order.
Before Virginia's new Democratic congressional map can take effect, the Supreme Court has to resolve a Republican-backed legal challenge. Democrats are optimistic they will succeed, though.

VA Dems’ new map would make 4 GOP seats bluer:
1—Rob Wittman: Trump+5 to Harris+8.5
2—Jen Kiggans: Trump+0 to Harris+5
5—John McGuire: Trump+12 to Harris+8.5
6—Ben Cline: Trump+24 to Harris+3
Dems already could flip 1 & 2 on the current map, but their odds would greatly improve with the new map
Image of a Virginia Democrats' proposed congressional map that is drawn to elect a ten-to-one Democratic majority and flip four Republican seats in 2026. The district lines are displayed over top of a basemap with major roads and cities labeled. The districts are colored by the 2024 presidential winner's margin of victory, with Kamala Harris districts in blue and Donald Trump districts in red. Darker shades represent larger margins of victory. An embedded chart shows the 2024 presidential election results and the adult population racial demographics in each district. Harris won 10 of the 11 districts, with Trump winning just a single district in western Virginia. Black voters would retain their ability to elect their preferred candidates in Districts 3 and 4, which remain safely Democratic.
Breaking (🧵): Virginia has PASSED a referendum that would let Dems redraw the congressional map for 2026 in response to new GOP gerrymanders in other states (pending VA Supreme Court review).
It targets 4 Rs to elect a 10-1 Dem majority.

Virginia’s state Senate president pro tem led the charge for passing a 10-1 map and not settling for something more modest.
Lucas is also 82 years old and has been trashing Republicans like this on social media for months 🫢
I will *always* repost this exchange
JUST IN: Trump still railing against #SCOTUS. He says he's likely to lose birthright case & complains "certain" justices he put on court "totally misrepresented who they were and the true ideology for which they stand." truthsocial.com/@realDonaldT...
A Republican trifecta drew the Virginia map in 2012 after the 2010 census and gave themselves 8R - 3D.
It took remarkable composure for little Billy Chamberlain to not simply reply with 240 characters of the n word in all caps. It's where his heart is at, always has been.
(this wouldn't be enough to flip the result)
Trump launches a new attack on his SCOTUS appointees
“I put certain people on the United States Supreme Court who totally misrepresented who they were, and the true ideology for which they stand!”
The more aggressive Republicans have talked about aiming for +5; but others are nervous and want to not go above +2.
what remains to be seen:
—What Florida Republicans do in a special session next week.
—What Missouri's supreme court does with ballot petitions to block the new Missouri map (accounts for 1 GOP seat).
—What Virginia's supreme court does with the GOP lawsuit against the Virginia referendum.
With the result in Virginia, here's what we know about how mid-decade redistricting has shifted the landscape.
Across the 7 states with new maps:
—11 districts have shifted toward Democrats;
—9 districts have shifted toward the GOP.
The GOP entered this redistricting under the rather childish delusion they were going to gerrymander, and nobody would gerrymander them. In TX, MO, and a half dozen other states, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind
Congratulations to my Virginia peeps for making the entire state Loomer proof. 🤙
Congratulations, Virginia! Republicans are trying to tilt the midterm elections in their favor, but they haven’t done it yet. Thanks for showing us what it looks like to stand up for our democracy and fight back.
White House Pushes Texas to Redistrict, Hoping to Blunt Democratic Gains A rare mid-decade redistricting push has unnerved some Texas Republicans, who worry a drive to harm Democrats could end up endangering G.O.P. incumbents in 2026.
How’d that all turn out, anyway?
Democrats aren't winning the redistricting vote in Virginia by a landslide, but it's still a big deal. The victory in Virginia means Democrats can take the current 6D-5R map and possibly turn it into a 10D-1R edge in the November elections.
We’ve now reached the part of the referendum where everyone lines up, mutters “goodgamegoodgamegoodgamegoodgame“ a bunch of times with a series of low fives - the winning Yes side slightly more enthusiastic about it- and then they bring out baggies of oranges and Capri Suns for the campaign workers.
