Extremely not good, to say the least! 🙈
This is great!
Portions of an exposed tree trunk with tight and psychedelically flowing whorls in the grain, like nature’s slow lava lamp
Whorls gone wild
On International #TransDayOfVisbility, we stand with trans people worldwide facing escalating attacks on their rights, safety and dignity.
Human rights are universal, and governments must protect trans communities from discrimination and violence, and ensure everyone can live freely and safely.
Pour contèxte, le projet le plus grand n’a aucun connection petrolière. C’est pour faciliter le stockage pour un project biomasse qui est détenu à la majorité par la Première Nation de Meadow Lake ressources-naturelles.canada.ca/financement-...
Congrats, Joel!
I can't help but think that @vassb.bsky.social would find this profoundly amusing: www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/b9363f1...
Can't wait for the next season of Centre Block Idol
Ask not for whom the growing global energy imbalance amplifies chaos...
Hey @aaronwherry.bsky.social I know that duels with weapons are frowned upon, but do the rules of parliamentary procedure say anything about singing and/or math battles? www.ourcommons.ca/DocumentView...
New: Around the world people are turning to low-carbon EVs, solar panels, induction stoves and heat pumps as the Iran war upends oil and gas markets. Bloomberg journalists, including yours truly, filed dispatches from San Francisco to Lagos for this story. Free link

Toronto folks!
Tonight we're convening the latest edition of our East End Energy Beers. Come wonk out with some of Canada's sharpest climate/energy dorks from government to banking to ENGOs to academia.
7pm on at The Dylan, near Greenwood station
Everytime a fresh LRB arrives the *very first thing* I check is if there’s any sweet sweet Balle content. Now it’s finally here, but it includes Book IV, which doesn’t come out in Canada till mid-April 😭

Since I can just *sense* you're all hankering for weird-but-true Canadian ZEV sales statistics facts, consider this:
In November 2025, Ontario and Alberta both had the same meagre 5.35% share of electric vehicle sales (either BEV or PHEV).
For the the same month:
-Canada: 10%
-BC: 20%
-QC: 17%
(and do industrial policy, presumably)
For Government Reasons I can't describe the details of the Request for Standing Offers, but I strongly encourage folks to read it if they're interested. There's a lot of great detail, reflective of the thinking the teams have put into this and great inputs received from stakeholders in the past year
Scoring also takes a range of broader factors into account, meaning that assessments are not purely on price but also on broader benefits that, again, connect to the conditions needed for responsible scaling.
The design of the procurement also reflects a recognition that it's going to take a range of approaches to responsibly scale CDR to meaningful levels. It deliberately takes a portfolio approach, setting out a number of different technology categories, each to be competed separately.
The intent, spelled out in the document, is to support the like-for-like principle, offsetting fossil emissions with removals on geological (1000yr+) timescales. There's a reference to Allen et al (www.nature.com/articles/s41...)
The first priority of this strategy is absolute emissions reductions. But for emissions sources where complete elimination is not currently feasible, like the national safety and security fleet (fighter jets, ships, etc), permanent CDR is tagged to address residuals.
Unlike the US Department of Energy's (paused) CDR purchase prize pilot, this is not a grant program. These credits are being procured by the government as part of the Greening Government Strategy to reach net-zero operational emissions.
Excited to share some fun policy progress from Canada on permanent CDR. Yesterday, we launched a government procurement process for high-integrity credits from a range of approaches. To the best of our knowledge, we are the first national government to do so. canadabuys.canada.ca/en/tender-op...
Pretend AI composes a haiku about Doritos: I like eating them/they are tasty salty fun/hooray Doritos

I’m very upset that I didn’t invent this genius website, but I am so glad that *someone* did. The absolute best way to waste your time and celebrate idle humanity 🤣
an important anniversary this year: colm tóibín's 2009 novel *brooklyn* is exactly as old as avril lavigne was, when she recorded and released her debut album "let go", featuring "sk8er boi", "complicated", and "i'm with you". congratulations to both
