My go tos for that are a Sudoku, some weeding in the garden or hunting down typos on Wikipedia. One of those is most commonly me on a train, and another requires daylight and being at home.

Don't forget energy conservation, in some countries such as the UK, we've known since the 70s that energy conservation with existing technologies is more than half the answer; and usually the most cost effective option.

Interesting. What will the appeal process be, and the rules? If the charity commission gets this power, maybe under another government charities caught plugging ethnic cleansing or other crimes in the West Bank or East Jerusalem will be closed & merged into other charities.

No, their biggest leverage is the threat of Russia and the idea that we need US support to deter Russian invasion. When Putin goes, the US has little leverage other than their control of the sealanes, and I doubt even Trump would be prepared to blockade Europe.

The USA has lobbied for global intellectual property laws for Hollywood and Silicon Valley. Similarly the lack of a right to repair. Drop IP laws or tax Amazon, Google etc on turnover and you will annoy the US.

So it seems I've worn out an axle, literally lost my bearings - the wheel gave out as a result. Mind you it outlasted two sets of pedals on that bike, and the new wheel will cost £45; and I did manage to get the bike to the cycle shop myself. I think car repairs are generally pricier.

EVs are falling in price as the technology improves and the lithium price falls. So hopefully the subsidy axe will only be a blip. As long as the black cabs have access to bus lanes and taxi stands they will continue. Yes The Knowledge needs to change, spotting drugged clients not just human satnavs

Given the date I'm assuming this is an April Fool. But it would be lovely if it wasn't.

I'm not greatly surprised. Davey lead the lib dems through a general election with an effective but "presidential" campaign. Badenoch became Tory leader after the GE. Yes she has been in her job for a few uninspiring months, but now is not the time to talk politics to those least interested in it.

The image is a screenshot of a post on X by a user named Mrs. Betty Bowers (@mrsbettybowers

But if you write an editorial for your school newspaper that Trump doesn’t like, you will be abducted on the street and disappear."

This is horrifyingly correct.

Nigel Farage would rather suck up to Vladimir Putin than stand up for Britain Nigel Farage talks up Donald Trump and makes excuses for Vladimir Putin, it's clear he’d rather suck up to them than stand up for Britain,

As the person who tries to stay on top of calvary/cavalry and causality/casualty errors on Wikipedia, I hope this means a serious expansion in the US department of education is on the way.

I take it this means he is giving up on trying to grab Canada, or at least Quebec.

One of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world just lost $1.4 billion (with a B) to a hack.

This is 5x as much as the previous largest exchange hack in history.

Donald Trump’s proposal for Gaza is bizarre but also dangerous. It shows casual disregard for the rights and aspirations of Palestinians and threatens the basis for peace at this fragile moment. The UK cannot be silent - we must make clear that this proposal is damaging, wrong and would amount to a severe breach of international law.

Now is the moment for the UK to immediately recognise Palestine as a state, to make clear our commitment to a two-state solution based on 1967 borders.

So are more UK parents "lying, bending rules or playing the system" re school places? Given the time lag, I suspect this at least as much about the lack of choice during the recent bulge as to VAT on school fees. And moving near a good school or getting religious is in the rules.

Democrats told people that the economy was doing well, despite people on minimum wage experiencing static incomes and rising prices. Trump may be no better, he may well be worse, but if the Dems want to get back into power again, they need to be more like Bernie.

Elon Musk, encouraged by his mother and an army of his cultish fans, is threatening tonight to sue a Washington Post journalist for pointing out on live TV that neo-Nazis welcomed his salute on Inauguration Day.

Can we finally put the ‘he’s a free speech absolutist!’ BS to bed?

If your Christianity causes you to be offended by someone asking the most powerful person in the country to be merciful towards the powerless, then you have profoundly misunderstood the teachings of Jesus Christ.

Old oak tree with twisted branches in autumn woodland of ancient oaks

A single 400-year-old ancient oak produces 234,000 litres of oxygen a year while soaking up carbon dioxide, and can support more than 2,000 species of bird, insect, fungus, and lichen. Nature is amazing - we need more of it, not less. Please repost if you agree 🌳

If you report that "undocumented feature" to the UK's information commissioner I suspect that Google will have to fix it. At least that specific incident, not the generic one of American IT giants thinking of Privacy as a past tense thing.
