It looks amazing at night, too. I got there just in time to watch it power down for the night.

I’m so sorry for your loss. It was so painful losing my brother 5 years ago. It was so sad when my father in law passed months later, too. Support systems make difficult times like this easier, but even with that it can be really hard to adjust. I hope you’re doing ok.

My education role at The Sandbox Game was eliminated, so I’m in project mode while I seek my next adventure.

Goal: Learn to leverage AI to design and develop a fun game about using AI. The game will teach what I learn. #GameBasedLearning

So much fun creating again! 💙

Why Some Games Never Get Old: The Timeless Appeal of Rock, Paper, Scissors Have you ever wondered why certain games stick with us for generations? Whether it’s the endless possibilities of chess or the sheer…

here’s an old story i wrote about one of the oldest games out there: rock-paper-scissors. it’s crazy how it’s found its way into nearly every aspect of life—and gaming—to become one of the most-used mechanics today.

UX/UI is often overlooked in indie games, but here’s why it matters:

players leave if menus frustrate them
good feedback loops = player satisfaction
clean design = better reviews

Huge dry erase post it sheet to stick on my 11 year old’s wall for art (flexible with her ever changing interests). A huge pack of colorful dry erase markers included.

For my 13 year old, a “dragon egg.” He’ll get a huge laugh from finding out his gift is a rock, then learn it’s a geode.

Right click menu showing arrow pointing to "Create qr code"

OMG how did I never notice this 🤦🏼

If, in Chrome, you right click on a webpage there is an option to "Create QR Code for this page."

Why am I digging through the 3 dots menu???

Traditional assessment focuses on products.

The assumption?

If we see a quality product, it means the student performed well on all related tasks.

Good Product = Good Process.

But that's far from true.

By focusing on only the final product, we lose the chance to offer more valuable feedback.

Time for Kids magazine cover depicting the Covid virus and a red headline “BATTLING THE VIRUS”

Questions next to the cover:

1. Who is the author/artist and what is the purpose?
2. What techniques are used to attract and hold attention?
3. What lifestyles, values, and points of view are represented?
4. How might different people interpret the message?
5. What is omitted?

A collection of 20 magazine covers during the early days of the pandemic. Most contain red illustrations and words. Lots of masks. Frequent use of words like panic, warning, danger. Frequent portrayals of “spiky” viruses

#MediaLiteracy Critically questioning a single media example (slide 1) can help students look “beyond the surface,” but there is so much power in having them look across collections (slide 2) to understand how media can perpetuate world views, stereotypes and implicit biases. #EduSky #TlSky

I’m excited to see the 📌 feed is there already at least. Looking forward to when it starts populating. ☺️

I was really missing bookmarks, so I’m appreciative of this clever solution. I’ll gladly wait.

You’re welcome to add me to any list you think I apply to.

I’m mainly interested in connecting with creators.

My son is 13 and has been obsessed with game dev since age 5 thanks to Breath of the Wild. I want to help him learn from other creators here, too.

No, there's no bookmarks here. But guess what? If you comment 📌on a post, then add this custom feed to your account, you'll be able to view all of those posts in your own feed. Handy! And great thinking @jaz.bsky.social!

For a user though, this means that everything you do is very public – kind of like it was on Twitter, just more so, because there are fewer restrictions.

Specifically, all of these are publicly accessible (even if they aren’t all displayed in the official app):

your posts
your likes
the photos you’ve attached to posts
all the handles you’ve previously used (you can’t delete those)
the list of people you follow
the list of people you block (!)
the user lists and moderation lists (mute/block lists) that you’ve created
which moderation lists (yours or others’) you are blocking people with

the custom feeds that you’ve saved or pinned
one caveat though: the provider of the feed knows when you are opening it
DMs are private between you and the person/people you’re chatting with, but they’re not currently end-to-end encrypted, so the Bluesky team can theoretically access them. A fully encrypted version will come later.

That could be ineffective. They’ve admited to throttling external links.

I closed my old 3.8k follower account to prevent misuse of my data and created a new work account.

Tech evolved significantly since I joined Twitter, with new risks. I’d rather build a new digital footprint with that in mind.

Increasingly less profitable and user friendly: poor privacy and feature changes, purposely throttled external links, poor culture, millions leaving. Better features elsewhere.

This is an excellent article with practical recommendations to improve your outcomes using AI.

For me, curiosity and practice led to naturally using some of these methods, and I valued the results more than my initial more basic prompts.

I look forward to trying out new things from this list!

Awesome! Persistence pays off!

I couldn’t get IT to set up accounts or get dedicated iPads. Some teachers even opposed my plans when I talked about game-based learning for pandemic socialization and education in 2020. I fundraised thousands to do it myself, but quit when in person was required.

Education seems to move so slowly at times - but if you told me 3 years ago every child in my class would have an iPad, we’d have Minecraft accounts and we’d be enjoying a diving contest as a stimulus for our journalism lesson - well I would’ve laughed!

Pumpkin and strawberry rhubarb pies

Pumpkin and strawberry rhubarb pies

Happy Thanksgiving! 🍁

What are you looking forward to enjoying today?

Mom made strawberry rhubarb pie. I’m excited to try it. Thanks for sharing your favorite with me today, @paengilis.bsky.social! 🫶🏻

I’m also making two of my husband’s low sugar favorites: pumpkin pie done, cranberry sauce later.
