It’s inaccurate to say Mario is brave and Luigi is cowardly

Luigi is afraid of death, so he runs away from danger. Mario is afraid of living, so he runs towards death. Both brothers are cowards in their own way

Rivers and Tides 2001
Watched Apr 10, 2026
I'd like to thank twitter legend Dennis B. Hooper for memeifying this excellent documentary for years, because it put the thing on my radar, while his consistent posting about it kept reminding me to actually get around to watching it. This is a stunning portrait of the artist Andy Goldsworthy, a man who creates works of art out of materials found in our natural world - rocks, sticks, clay, moss, leaves, ice, etc. It is beautiful, quiet, patient, even trancelike at times. His slow methodology, his philosophies about how the natural world speaks to him, time lapses showing the growth or decay of the work and the breathtaking reveals of his finished products, mixed with a droning, hypnotic score, all work in tandem to put one into a relaxed, meditative state, thus making it, at least for me, one of the more unique experiences watching a documentary. A special, fascinating piece. Can't recommend this one highly enough.

In the Mood for Love
In the Mood for Love YouTube video by Joanna Wang - Topic

Did i ever post this before? The theme of "In the Mood for Love" but covered in an enormous, full-orchestral Edward Scissorhands style.

May be the greatest thing I've ever heard?

Fucking great. Revelatory even. Coming up on a long time though, I need to revisit.

Watts' story about The Thing is also incredible. His sci-fi is ice water in your face

The difference between Descartes and other philosophers is striking. When his _Rules_ got too long and complicated, he abandoned the project to search for a simpler method. Most philosophers would instead have responded by adding two more volumes.

[alt text by NASA] The Moon, seen here backlit by the Sun during a solar eclipse on April 6, 2026, is photographed by one of the cameras on the Orion spacecraft’s solar array wings. Orion is visible in the foreground on the left. Earth is reflecting sunlight at the left edge of the Moon, which is slightly brighter than the rest of the disk. The bright spot visible just below the Moon’s bottom right edge is Saturn. Beyond that, the bright spot at the right edge of the image is Mars. Credit: NASA

Whoa 🤯

The Moon, in full eclipse, with the #Artemis II Orion spacecraft. Part of the Moon and spacecraft are lit by Earthshine, and both Saturn and Mars are visible to the lower right. Incredible. Details: images.nasa.gov/details/art0...

From Clickhole's "Incredible! We Asked These Astronauts What It’s Like To Be In Space," Barry Wilmore: You never know true beauty until you see Earth from space, or true terror until you hear someone knocking on the space station door from outside. You look through the porthole and see an astronaut, but all your crew is inside and accounted for. You use the comm to ask who it is and he says he’s Ramirez returning from a repair mission, but Ramirez is sitting right next to you in the command module and he’s just as confused as you are. When you tell the guy this over the radio he starts banging on the door louder and harder, begging you to let him in, saying he’s the real Ramirez. Meanwhile, the Ramirez inside with you is pleading to keep the airlock shut. It really puts life on Earth into perspective.

New conspiracy theory: I can't believe we actually, literally landed on the moon all the way back in the 60s and now we're 100% absolutely faking a moon flyby using a film studio in Alberta.

The deleterious effects of not having a hobby are becoming a defining point in this cultural moment—and who is poised to help? That’s right: the autistics. Job fair day where we all set up tables explaining our deep dives and give people a hand out, a path back to society.
