It’s after an 8 year old girl was murdered in Victorian England - she was cut up into little pieces. After that tinned mutton appeared around 1870s and people used to joke it was sweet fanny adams, meaning it wasn’t very good meat, which then became meaning nothing much at all. ..

It’s a term of endearment in cockney London 😁

Also worth noting the etymology of Sweet FA, (f*ck all or Fanny Adams)

It was very common up until about 100 years ago
