London people - keep an eye out!
Really enjoyed the #MandHshow yesterday! Great to catch up with fellow museum and heritage peeps and see all the latest technology being used to create interactive and informative stories, connecting people with the past!
Loving my new Playmobil sets I got myself for my birthday 😁
Been chatting about rude street names today which reminds me of one of my favourite tales I learnt when on my tour guide course last year - historiclondontours.com/tales-of-lon...
Great summary- mentions cock lane too (minus scratching fanny)
Being an archaeologist who studies historical maps a lot - there are some amazing names out there. I always try to spot the rudest/weirdest when on a new job 😊
Lots of former Gropecunt Lanes too 😁
There’s also the town of Shitterton, who’ve had their town sign stolen so much it’s now carved in stone 😁
And Wee! Triple entendres 🤣
One of my favourite tales I learnt when doing my London tour guide course last year was that of “Scratching Fanny of Cock Lane” 🤣
Ooh that sounds good - will add it to my list 😊
Ooh I’ve yet to watch that- any good? I have the original comics
It’s after an 8 year old girl was murdered in Victorian England - she was cut up into little pieces. After that tinned mutton appeared around 1870s and people used to joke it was sweet fanny adams, meaning it wasn’t very good meat, which then became meaning nothing much at all. ..
It’s a term of endearment in cockney London 😁
Also worth noting the etymology of Sweet FA, (f*ck all or Fanny Adams)
It was very common up until about 100 years ago
Hearing Americans say “fanny pack”, my brain just automatically translates it into “c*nt sac” which makes my inner child giggle so much 😁

Sending jackdaw solidarity 😊
I think this is why it attracts a lot of neurodiverse people to it, we spot patterns and trends, study many related disciplines in our search for answers…
I always thought this was the case but good to see some solid science confirm!
