Can't wait to get the new Murderbot! It's a comfort read for me too, which seems odd when you think about it.

The explosions! The snark!

Growing up in various small towns in the US felt very oppressive and othering. I was never burned as a witch but definitely didn't feel safe. #horrorwriterschat

Yeah, it's never safe everywhere and now feels more volatile than times in the past. Stay safe from all the stakes!

It does feel flattened to me too. The little unique, real moments are commoditized and zoomed past somehow. No time to sit and listen. Or maybe that's just me. #horrorwriterschat

Big swings

I feel like the language barrier would be a big deal if you went back very far. And I imagine I'd be burned as a witch or arrested in short order for standing wrong or saying the wrong thing or something. #horrorwriterschat

Sometimes places have vibes, even if they've been changed a lot. I love visiting places I'm writing about just to soak things up. Wind, light, the slope of the floor, smells. Glad the house is still there for you to see

Loved Murderbot! Read all the books, watched all the shows. Hoping for a sequel!

Fun time travel would be the best. I think I'd like to time travel just to eat and walk around looking at things that don't exist. Try to stay away from people, war, politics, disease. I'm assuming I'm mostly invisible and have good healthcare. #horrorwriterschat

It's expensive to make full color illustrated books like that. I imagine they're not gouging or anything.

That does seem like the sane way to look at it.

It's always hard to tear myself away, but worth it. Theoretically. #horrorwriterschat

It's a clever way to avoid research?

Did you ever read the articles by her descendant? He researched serial killing, found a genetic basis, determined he had it, then found out he was descended from Lizzie Borden's family? I read a very cool interview with him. #horrorwriterschat

Seems like there's an even split between the "I will research every detail of the period, including toenail length" and the "meh, I mostly wing it, whatever" groups. #horrorwriterschat
