Just me jamming a bit before tonight's gig.

I've got a gig coming , and my funk chops have atrophied. So I have to do some practicing. Need to start rebuilding a bit of muscle

I like adding tambourine to my tracks, but it's really not my strongest skill. Still I refuse to outsource my tambourines to a sampling pack. There's a line, you know!
I've been to countless music stores, trying various tambourines, in my attempt to find "the one". Turns out I just had to use three at the same time 🤷
Follow for more tambourine shenanigans. Or not...

in the late nineties. At a time where online shopping meant that you had to send your credit card number in two separate emails.
Unfortunately the pickups became microphonic after a few years, and that meant the guitar started squealing if the volume was too loud or I turned up the gain.
I finally got around to wax potting the pickups of my guitar in September.
The pickups were Seymour Duncan's Seth Lover model, and are not potted from the factory. I bought the pickups...
I flipped a coin to choose major or minor and rolled a D12 to determine the key. 1 for C, 2 for C# (or Db), 3 for D and so on.
Improvising like that, on the spot on a live stream, does something to your self confidence. I recommend trying!
A few years ago I did a regular live stream every Sunday night. It was called Søndag kveld med Trygve.
On the live stream I talked about life and music and stuff, and played guitar. Mostly impro.
This video is from a dice controlled impro. 1/2
This is my first guitar, and the only guitar I've ever sold (Yeah, I know I might have hoarding tendencies)
It wasn't very good, but it would have been cool to have it hanging on my wall.
I just realized it's Bandcamp Friday, and I haven't shared my link yet. Hope this oversight doesn't cause me to lose my independent artist certification!
Anyway, if you're curious about Cabin Cruiser Rock, just head on over to

The downside is that most of my thriends can't understand what my lyrics. I play with the idea of translating some lyrics. But I'm not there yet
Maybe some day
Now I finally write in my own language.
A friend who made the same switch said it like this:
"When I was writing in English, the language owned me. Now I can own the language."
There is a downside, though.
⬇️
I tried creating lyrics in Norwegian, but it was hard. I have identified two issues:
1. I needed to practice.
2. I knew there language better, and could identify bad writing
And after a few attempts I cracked the code.
⬇️
I wrote in English because it sounded cool. And right. The lyrics of my heroes was in English
But it can get weird.
Attending a concert in Norway, with a Norwegian artist speaking in Norwegian between the songs. And switching to another language when they start singing.
It's a little strange
⬇️
I started writing songs in my teens, and my lyrics were in English.
You're probably thinking: "That don't impress me much". And you'd be right. The lyrics weren't great.
But that's not the point.
My mother tongue is Norwegian
So why did I write in English? And why did I switch to Norwegian?
🧵
Ohh! That's gorgeous
Have you recorded an actual piano, or ifs it a virtual instrument?
Your singing and playing is 🔥
Congrats on your new songs!
Maybe someone hating on your work means that it has a direction. It has a purpose.
And only you can say if that direction and purpose aligns with yours.

So then maybe - just maybe - it really doesn't matter if somebody doesn't appreciate your work?
I want everyone to like what I make.
Or do I?
If everybody likes it, doesn't that mean that it really isn't anything. It doesn't have an opinion. I doesn't have a point of view.

Somebody hates your favorite artist.
I mean, they despise them. And they're not shy about it.
Think of a piece by your favorite artist. Or one of your most beloved artists, if you don't play favorites.
The one that really tugs on your heartstrings.
Somebody hates it.

Or rather: my playing had matured.
That could happen to you too. You might not know it, but if you met someone you played with (or for) a few years ago, they will.

That hadn't occurred to me. I hadn't really noticed that I had improved, I just had.
It probably didn't happen by accident, since I had attended a folk high school, studying music for a year, but either way, my playing had improved.

...when we played together a couple of years ago."
I proudly pointed at my new Marshall tube amp. I'd upgraded from a small 2x8" peavey amp, since the tour we did.
But that wasn't it.
"You used to solo all the time", he said. "Now you lay back and bring the groove."

A couple of years later I met the keyboard player again. We had both moved to Trondheim (a bigger town in Norway) to study, and I was invited to play guitar in his band.
At one band practice he said to me: "Your playing sounds really good. You're sound so much better than ...

The drummer and bass player were from my town and the keyboard player was from a neighboring town, so I didn't know him that well. He was amazing. I don't think I've ever met anyone with better ears, but I'm digressing.
We had a great time and the tour was a success.

I grew as a musician without really noticing
Story time!
In my teens I played guitar with a church choir. At one point a few choirs from nearby towns collaborated and went on tour.

Yeah, I never really did much on Twitter 🤷♂️
But I had some conversations on Threads that are partly deleted.
You'll do what you want, I just gave you my 2 cents 😊
I get that.
I probably need to give up the idea of permanence.
I just find it sad to see previous conversations ruined by deleted posts.
I'm sort of puzzled that you do this. You ruin the conversations that you took part in for those that are still on Threads.
I get that you want to distance yourself from Meta, though.
But your take on this makes me think twice about commenting on your posts on here Bluesky.
