Have found out that I’m off to the Lewis Walpole Library in Connecticut as a Visiting Scholar later this year with my fab colleague Prof Maria Hayward. I am so excited.

VAT on private school fees puts Edinburgh state schools at capacity Majority of the capital’s 15 private schools are understood to have lost pupils, dispersed to state schools throughout the city

There are around 10k private school kids in Edinburgh.

51 have moved to state schools in January.

As I've repeatedly said the effects of VAT on fees are going to be minimal.

So grateful to the Landmark Trust to have been awarded a stay at the wonderful Belmont in Lyme Regis with colleagues to work on Nightlife in the 18th century town. We had a fantastic time

Feeling very lucky to be part of a team of historians awarded a stay at a Landmark Trust property in 2025 as part of their Futures Scheme to advance our project thinking about nightlife in eighteenth century towns. We will be staying at Belmont a beautiful Georgian seaside villa in Lyme Regis.

Three in four England universities expected to be in the red next year Higher education regulator says sector needs to take ‘take bold action’ and consider mergers or cost sharing

It looks like the philistines will get their way. Far fewer universities, far fewer courses, far less opportunity for most school leavers and a far lower quality of education for those who do.

Meanwhile, "efficency" is code for mass redundancies.

Easy to blame American voters for this but the Supreme Court could have stopped this. Trump v United States, Trump v Anderson — they could have stopped Trump as a candidate.
