Just finished listening to this great episode by @stuartjritchie.bsky.social and @tomchivers.bsky.social on whether early-onset cancer rates are really up.
Can highly recommend—it’s not only a relevant topic, but also a great exercise in the care that’s needed when somebody gives you a number.

Should’ve used Claude!
Wow! I think 2005 for me. I bought a branded dinner tray from the merchandise stall.
It’s one of the best songs ever and I strongly recommend it to you! Tom wouldn’t understand because it doesn’t have any rap-metal in it.
It’s an R.E.M. lyric!!! From New Adventures in Hi-Fi.

How the excellent The Studies Show podcast ( @tomchivers.bsky.social and @stuartjritchie.bsky.social ) surprised me by introducing me to the fiendish collider bias: brianclegg.blogspot.com/2024/12/the-... #Statistics #badcorrelations
An ENTIRE podcast on collider bias 🤓🎉 - love it!
Here is our take for gene x evironment studies!
Can’t wait to listen! www.nature.com/articles/s41...
In response to the final few seconds in this podcast, that CB is something to be aware of but really hard to actually DO anything about. Here’s our suggestions in the genetic epidemiology context: journals.plos.org/plosgenetics...
Indeed, great episode by @tomchivers.bsky.social & @stuartjritchie.bsky.social on collider bias
& for criminologists worth checking this research note

Wow! Obviously I find that upsetting because Tom wrote it, but nevertheless…
Some said it couldn’t be done. That it was impossible; ridiculous; absurd. But @tomchivers.bsky.social and I have done it: recorded a whole podcast episode about collider bias. www.thestudiesshowpod.com/p/episode-57...

When John Kingman - who has done more to drive good policy on UK economic growth than anyone - gives advice, I really hope people listen.

Dismayed to come to a different platform and find this guy is still tweeting about me all the time. I even pre-emptively blocked him!
This plus the added push factor of Elon Musk; and the election marking a clear point after which a lot of people thought “enough is enough”. That’s my guess- though it might also be just pure luck.
The Economist claims many UK and US (not shown) masters degrees have negative financial returns (especially for men) by the age of 35

I spent maybe 3 years of high school completely in love with him, and I’ve had a very soft spot for him ever since…
He hasn’t even read the book.
I just tend to reserve the nastiness for research that’s bad—rather than research I agree with and which is obviously attempting to make other research less bad as well.
