I haven't been able to binge read recently, but I HAVE finally watched Arcane, so I feel cultured anyway.

as someone who has read the murderbot series like 1000 times now (4, but I'm getting there) I'm very impressed that the changes they made in the show still felt RIGHT for the series. Glad its getting a season 2!

I'm reading a historical research novel about religion and shrooms, and trying to explain the intriguing facts without sounding like a conspiracy theorist looking for an excuse to trip acid should earn me a medal in conversational gymnastics. πŸ˜…

Happy Pride Month πŸ’–

Finding space to exist loudly and proudly should never be scary, but even when it is, find your people, find your safety, find your joy. One day you'll look in the mirror the "you" thats been afraid will be brave instead. There's no rush on finding yourself. πŸ’•

If you enjoy a good dense high fantasy you can jump right in with The Way of Kings, but if you want an easier entry and like YA fantasy, Mistborn is the best place to start 😊

I will say that, as repugnant as I find the ban and subsequent takeover of tiktok, it has helped to reduce my screen-time by more than half. Which will certainly help me reach my reading goals this year.

Probably starter packs plus the ick factor of meta on tiktok lol

I'm not about to begrudge any moisture in a drought-prone area, but did it HAVE to snow on the day I'm moving?! πŸ˜©πŸ˜…

Honestly, the biggest bummer about losing my booktok to meta is having to build my book algorithm back up on RedNote so it's not all SJM trash posts. 😩

After years of playing with color in my hair, I've spotted the greys! I think it's the stress of the book plots. A worthy cause if there ever was one. 😌

Front cover for Face by Joma West. Abstract blue, red and green watercolour painting with the shape of a face seen in white silhouette in the centre

Front cover for Face by Joma West. Abstract blue, red and green watercolour painting with the shape of a face seen in white silhouette in the centre

This is a queer book about a dystopian society where no one touches, everyone is reliant on online status for financial stability, and everyone feels pressure to control emotions.

Just popped into my mind, you know, randomly.

Day one of the ban and the abrupt severance of communities and social circles has left an eerily similar feeling of isolation to COVID in the air. So until we get our footing again, stay mentally well, friends.

2nd read of 2025: Rouge, by Mona Awad. Yes, I was confused, yes I loved it.
3rd read of 2025: The Fifth Season, by NK Jemisin (reread). Confusion is my theme this year i guess lol. A masterclass in fantasy writing, even better on a reread.

I need to record a goodbye to booktok, but also, I lack the motivation to wash my hair... or put on pants. Oh well I guess? Lol

Books 2 and 3 this year: "The Fifth Season," by N.K. Jemisin was a reread with a book club. Even better the second time around! And "Rouge," by Mona Awad, a literary horror novel with confusing but beautiful prose that uses beauty standards to haunt the reader.

The Fifth Season, by N.K. Jemisin. It both masterfully written, and excellently narrated ☺️

With my free will, today I turned on an audiobook, baked a cake and sat down to play Stardew Valley in front of my heater while I ate said cake for breakfast. Happy New Year. Lol

Finished my first book of 2025! "Invisible Women," by Caroline Criado Perez, speaks to the startling lack of data that takes women into account, and what data DOES exist makes it clear this data gap is dangerous.

One of my reading goals for 2025 is to branch out of my usual comfort zone, so drop a book rec here and I'll read the first 12 that I haven't already! (this is me begging for recommendations)

I also read Bunny! It was so strange but sooo good. I'm only a little into Rouge, but the prose is so strong!
