Turned my phone to black and white. Now everything looks historic. Ha

My name is Lydia Green. I’m a leftist organizer, Democratic District Leader, & queer Jewish NYer. And I’m running to represent district 52 in the NYS Assembly. Brooklyn is my home, and I believe it should be a livable home for all.

Without question, one of the hardest things I’ve taken on.
Her focus on the war frustrated some constituents and was part of the reason Maya Kornberg, 33, a senior research fellow at the Brennan Center for Justice, challenged her. In a television interview, Ms. Kornberg, who supports a cease-fire in Gaza, blasted Ms. Hanif’s “disproportionate focus on that issue and taking public divisive stances on that issue, instead of focusing on the local issues.”
Shahana Hanif has made a few statements and attended a couple of protests, which her opponent and those who support her haven't stopped bringing up. And then they have the chutzpah to say that Shahana has a "disproportionate focus on that issue." They're the ones talking about it all the time!
We needed Shahana Hanif to win big to send a message that big money and Islamophobia have no place in local politics, our community, or anywhere. She blew it out of the water!
Hanif with 69.9%
This is a story too: a boatload of outside money poured in to engineer racially motivated opposition to Shahana Hanif, a widely liked CM who cruised to reelection two years ago, and it just …didn’t work at all
Hopefully OCR politico article! With photo of Shahana and Jumaane
Bresklyn Daily Eagle BOERUM HILL - MORE THAN 250 JEWISH CONSTITUENTS OF CITY COUNCILMEMBER SHAHANA HANIF HAVE SIGNED a public letter supporting her re-election. Hanif, who is the city's first Muslim woman member of City Council, and a progressive, has faced multiple coordinated political attacks from Trump supporters and outside groups. The Jewish coalition described Hanif as "a principled, effective leader in opposing Trump and Adams' attacks on democracy" that has "won major legislation and budget improvements" on issues ranging from affordability and climate protections to immigration justice and combating hate, according to a press release issued on the endorsement. Hanif was first elected in 2021 to represent Council District 39, which spans several Brooklyn neighborhoods. The signatories, which include clergy members, also emphasize that they've "seen first-hand how compassionate and open to learning she is, how clearly she understands that antisemitism and Islamophobia are inextricably intertwined, and how she consistently takes action to address all forms of hate violence and bigotry." The letter itemizes several other issues on which she has shown leadership and accomplishment: affordability, climate and justice in immigration and language justice, among others. "As Jews," they write, "we're proud to have elected NYC's first Muslim woman to the City Council, and committed to continuing to work with her to make our city safe for all who live here."
40 people including Shahana Hanif behind a big vibrant pink and purple banner saying Jews For Shahana, Caring for our neighbors and holding Jews for Shahana signs!

I'm immensely proud to be putting all my effort into Jews For Shahana! Up against waves of spending by Uber, Bloomberg, MSG, and Solidarity PAC and waves of attempts to smear Shahana , today we hit the news with our letter from over 260 Jewish constituents. 1/4

I'm personally endorsing Shahana Hanif for re-election in Brooklyn's 39th Council District. I've worked closely with @shahanafrombk.bsky.social with @streetspac.org and in my community role and found her smart, principled, and hard-working. She's taken politically risky positions in favor of...
In #CD38, I endorse the incumbent Shahana Hanif. Another strong voice for transportation, she supported the Arrow Linen rezoning and City of Yes. She is facing a primary challenger funded, in part, by Republican donors.
Just got yet another super-PAC mailer backing @mayaforcouncil.bsky.social
This time it’s from “Moving New York Families Forward” — a pro-charter school super-PAC funded by Mike Bloomberg.
Does Maya Kornberg want to privatize our public schools?
I am honored to be endorsed by my friend, mentor, and ally, former Manhattan BP Ruth Messinger—a progressive trailblazer who fought Trump before it was cool. I've been so grateful for her collaboration and leadership in building multi-faith coalitions to protect NYC immigrants. Thank you Ruth!
no way bluesky has reels lmao

Hedge fund billionaire Daniel Loeb maxed out his donations to the City Council campaign against progressive Councilmember Shahana Hanif.
Loeb gave still more to a PAC supporting the challenger, and $250,000 to a PAC supporting Cuomo.

In 2021, as a candidate @shahanafrombk.bsky.social honored the Triangle Fire by convening a feminist discussion of history, global & NYC labor organizing, immigration & garment work. It was an honor to speak at it - with a leader who cared and who has led in council on all those movements since.
NEW: Brooklyn City Council candidate Maya Kornberg has raised $$$ thanks to a pro-Israel group that she hasn’t publicly disclosed, potentially in violation of the law (via @nysfocus.bsky.social) nysfocus.com/2025/03/20/n...
WILD: Donors from outside NYC are spending 💰 on a sham City Council candidate against a progressive leader.
This prop candidate said she has “no relationship” w her plutocrat donor Len Blavatnik.
Turns out Blavatnik runs a company with her father and brother. www.cityandstateny.com/politics/202...
A new letter from Indivisible Brooklyn takes aim at GOP-aligned donors to Maya Kornberg. Plus, it notes Kornberg's connection to one of those donors is a lot closer than she let on to us back in December.

My take on this Maya Kornberg story? Taking money from billionaire Trump supporters is bad (and a political liability in a Dem primary in NYC!) . Lying about you and your families incredibly close relationship to one of them, much much worse. @bkindivisible.bsky.social @jfrejnyc.bsky.social
“…the defendants’ scheme consisted of illegally structuring campaign contributions to maximize the amount of additional money gained through the New York City Matching Funds Program for the Eric Adams campaign for Mayor.” 👀
this is too relatable 😭
helloooooo bluesky!!! thank you @yuhline.bsky.social for the invite 💙🙌
