Free public transport appreciation post. Needed a stat dec signed so caught a train from Altona to Westona. 17 minutes from when I arrived until the train replacement bus was due to arrive. Might be cutting it fine but no, I made it! Usually don't do short trips because of the cost but this was free

It kinda’ encapsulates transport in Australia but wild that the 2 main policy responses to an oil shortage are to:
1. Discourage walking and cycling (with free PT), and
2. Encourage driving (by halving fuel excise).
Expensive, populist and ineffective against the real problem.
