Looks like global ocean temperatures have increased somewhat rapidly to near all-time record values, even without an existing (although emerging) El Nino: climatereanalyzer.org/clim/sst_dai...

Potomac water temperature has gone up about 6°F the past few days but it is still cool enough to noticeably moderate DCA's air temperature with a southerly wind www.ndbc.noaa.gov/station_page...

Big changes afoot in the Pacific. The past month of WWB activity has pushed a great amount of warm water to the dateline, and the +PMM continues to intensify. We'll soon have the powerful warm pool surface, and by the end of the month may have a solid El Nino signature

So how warm has it been recently across the contiguous United States for different monthly periods (1 month through the last 60 months)? Oh dear... 😬

Evaporative demand topped the scales for the two-week period ending April 6th over much of the central and southern US. Elevated to critical fire weather and record heat the next 7-10 days could bring high-impact wildfires to the Southeast, Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic, including the New Jersey pine barrens and all areas impacted by hurricane helene.

The ECMWF extreme forecast index shows a strong signal for record heat this week. Wednesday’s outlook is depicted. High temperatures in the low and mid-90s may challenge all time April heat records.

Hope the next 10 days don’t end up as bad as it looks on paper. Fuels in the Apps and Mid-Atlantic are pre-conditioned by drought and recent high-end drying. An April heat wave on top of already historically dry fuels, unusually dry air and periods of gusty winds could bring major fires this week.

I love science. Sometimes you gotta just trust the math. They had to fly Jabba all the way from his home planet of Tatooine and they landed him EXACTLY on top of Integrity

I have resisted for too long but honestly, get these toxic umps out and automate as much as possible. At the very least it would have given us an unblemished Armando Galarraga perfect game. Embarrassing for MLBUA

Denver hit 80° for the 8th time this month. Not only is that more than double the previous March record for 80°+ days on record (3), it equals the *April* record for most 80°+ days on record (1987).

This absurd 'winter' keeps out absurding itself.
