In the movie “Pillow Talk,” the meetcute is Doris Day & Rock Hudson are forced to share a party line until Bell can get more trunk lines installed in NYC. He’s always picking up ladies on it, she has important interior decorating calls to make.
My assertion is this counts as science fiction.

The impediment to a fair and real democracy in this country is the Republican Party. Democrats tried to create fair districting nationally and they rejected it. My god.

Athens. 431 BC. Euripides’ “Medea” debuts. Athenian in the audience leans over to the man in the seat next to him and whispers, “bitch from hell right?” And the man next to him says, “yeah total hose beast” and they high five before getting shushed.
I bet you could get New Yorkers behind a plan to annex Columbia and make it a public college if you promised to name it SUNY Bodegas
hahaha I guess I always thought of that signalling more as "doesn't care about ME and MY standards"
I guess I'd say that clothing has multiple functions? Like, yes there's the bare functionality facet. Does it cover me, keep me comfortable? In that role, indeed nobody should care. But then also, clothing has always been a form of social signaling. In that role, it's inseparable from people caring?
Do you mean my obsession with people wearing them, or their obsession with doing it?
(or do, I would laugh)
People wearing pajamas every where, grown people referring to their role as a parent as being a "mamma" when speaking to other grown people, and the collapse of movies for adults are all part of the same cultural tide.
I've long held that Kate Bush's "Babooshka" and Rupert Holmes' "Escape (The Piña Colada Song)" are same universe, one Hamlet & the other Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, telling the same story from different points of view. I have recently found that the folk song "Sovay" is the ur-text here.
You're in there carpet bombing. I'm deploying precise munitions, exactly on target, every time.
