Thank you so much!
Front cover of a book titled "Neurodiversity: A Very Short Introduction" by Robert Chapman and Sue Fletcher-Watson. The cover features an abstract, painterly background with horizontal bands of earthy orange, tan, and muted green-grey, separated by a textured white line across the middle. The text is clean, white, and centered.
We are currently reading the very short but seriously fabulous introduction to neurodiversity from @drrobertchapman.bsky.social and @suereviews.bsky.social! This is such a well-written academic intro to neurodiversity studies. An authoritative and essential read. Highly recommended it to everyone!
Thank you very glad to hear!
I just finished reading this today, highly recommended it for anyone.
Books from Below is at 50%! We have released a new meme to mark the occasion. www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/booksfromb...
Of course you cannot usually say this in academia when someone asks you that. Thankfully there are other things I can say that are also true, such as that i enjoy learning and education, etc.
I also thought that getting educated would better equip me to push for structural change. It has helped in that regard.
Someone asked why i went into academia and it made me think about my brother. We were poor and he was schizophrenic. He died in 2017 due to government austerity. I was far away doing a phd, partly in the hope i could one day earn enough to look after him properly. But then he died before i finished.
Are you wealthy and drunkenly scrolling? If so this is the perfect time to donate a large sum of money to help open Newcastle's first radical bookshop in decades!

Really good critical analysis of Joanna Moncrieff's work and politics by Jesse Meadows.

Full fascism tends to arise after national humiliation. One reason Trump is useful for Amercian fascists is that he causes national humiliation.
Our collective trying to bring a radical bookshop to Newcastle is £33 away from 50%! Help us get past the half way mark if you can!

By “just war theory” the Trump administration means that the state just wages war, no government services or programs, just war—abroad and ultimately on its own people. I think that this might be the source of some of the confusion.
This was from continued transphobic harassment, gaslighting, and intimidation from senior management while in a precarious temp role. Of course for them, me going bald would only be confirmation that I can't possibly be nonbinary as they'd see it as just biological maleness, outside the social.
Thought i had started going bald last year as my hair began fairly suddenly falling out, but then when I moved out of an unbearable working environment it stopped and grew back. A reminder of how much control senior management in workplaces can have over the body even in the bourgeois office.
Reading this currently - highly recommended!! Short and to the point and full of diligent research and great thoughts
Everyone who can, should fund this crowdfunder so you can make my dream a reality (purchasing a book on Marxism from a radical bookshop and then reading it whilst drinking at @donzokobeer.bsky.social)

If we can open we mean to do much more of this kind of thing!
13 days!!
🚨New article🚨
What if the misguided construction of 'right-wing populism' has prevented us from holding the elite accountable and rejuvenate democracy?
This is what @alexyates2000.bsky.social and I explore in our new article: 'There is no such thing as ‘right-wing populism’'

I’m a bit further in an it’s brilliant.
I’m potentially teaching a neurodiversity module for a London uni in September… really tempted to set this as the textbook!
Fantastic work :)
Would love to hear how that goes down if you use it!
Thank you comrade!
If we work together, we can make nice things. Please support Robert and the rest of the team in helping them reach their goal!
How Newcastle will look if we can open Books From Below. Please donate if you can!
A lot of people still learn their most reactionary or bigoted political views from their parents, so never underestimate how important difficult political conversations with family members are. The impact could span generations.
Thank you Jamie glad you like it!
I spoke to a handful of organizers from across the country about where they're finding hope as we continue the struggle for disability justice into the second year of Trump 2.0. If you're feeling overwhelmed and looking for direction, I hope you'll find it here ❤️🩹
The loss of radical bookshops does not just stifle the spread of radical ideas. What replaces these spaces is isolation.
