💭 "We get to the big imagining when we get people together in different ways and figure out things we can do. It can be two or three people that you know well... or it can be big national groups... or it can be anything in between."

🎙️"People who lean into all this are going to be better suited to make big change from in the middle of the overall changes. We need that. Society changes big time in the midst of big disruption.❓ Are we going to steer it from inside... or are we going to watch?" 🔭

🚀 The risk landscape is amplifying, escalating, & intensifying. We need to not lose our ever-loving minds. 🧠

I said something last week that is more broadly applicable today:
Calling for empathy is not neutral or apolitical when only one group of people have been socialized and brutalized into having empathy.
Christian nationalism is advancing through controversial activism, political connections, & coordinated legislation. From a Pentagon-backed church near the Capitol to David Barton’s “bill mill” pushing Ten Commandments laws in 28 states, this movement is reshaping American society & governance.
Not to interrupt production at the takes factory but they should probably identify and catch the actual killer before we decide what it all means.
I know there’s a lot happening right now but I want to say this:
I’ve been deeply affected by the way the 80s tabloid media has been almost entirely memory-holed. Not even a lot of today’s media scholars seem to appreciate how much tabloids shaped everything, much less the political scholars
I encourage everyone to look out for their safety and practice good internet hygiene, of course. But some of the scolding posts I've read suggest we can change the awful aftermath of a fateful event by just holding our tongues and being quiet little mice, and that isn't my experience.
Here are some things that Charlie Kirk said in his life.
The man is dead, and so it only seems fair to share his legacy by cataloguing the values he spread while alive.
Charlie Kirk spent his life‘s work and all of his energy and time targeting out-groups while arguing for a world in which gun massacres would be easy to enact, plentiful, and inevitable, and he became famous and wealthy doing it, and we’re now not supposed to mention that because it’s not polite.

On this July 4th, heroes in our government are putting themselves on the line and making material sacrifices to tell the truth.
Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was illegally deported by the Trump administration, is now offering a chilling account of his mistreatment in a Salvadoran prison, claiming he suffered “severe beatings,” sleep deprivation, malnutrition and other forms of torture at the hands of his jailers.
Rep. Laurel Libby, R-Auburn, recently used my second-place finish in the 1,600-meter run, and that of my teammate in the 800-meter run, to malign Soren Stark-Chessa, the trans-identified athlete who finished first. One of the reasons I chose to run cross-country and track is the community: Teammates cheering each other on, athletes from different schools coming together, and the fact that personal improvement is valued as much as, if not more than, the place we finish. Last Friday, I ran the fastest 1,600-meter race I have ever run in middle school or high school track and earned varsity status by my school’s standards. I am extremely proud of the effort I put into the race and the time that I achieved. The fact that someone else finished in front of me didn’t diminish the happiness I felt after finishing that race. I don’t feel like first place was taken from me. Instead, I feel like a happy day was turned ugly by a bully who is using children to make political points. We are all just kids trying to make our way through high school. Participating in sports is the highlight of high school for some kids. No one was harmed by Soren’s participation in the girls’ track meet, but we are all harmed by the hateful rhetoric of bullies, like Rep. Libby, who want to take sports away from some kids just because of who they are. Anelise Feldman Freshman, Yarmouth High School Yarmouth
this is a letter to the editor from a high school track runner who came in second to a trans girl in a race. her state house rep in maine started talking about it. so she wrote this: www.pressherald.com/2025/05/14/r...
Plantations are mass graves and memorials to atrocities. They should be treated like concentration camps, because that's exactly what they are. They should be treated as such, not used as wedding venues or party sites.
A panel from a Calvin and Hobbes comic. Calvin's mom, eating dinner, says "Life could be worse, Calvin." Calvin, clearly upset, his mouth huge says "Life could be a lot BETTER too!"
I think about this comic all the time.

Kristen Welker asks Donald Trump if he needs to uphold the Constitution on Meet the Press.
His response?
"I don't know."
Republicans need to grow a spine and impeach this guy already.
The administration just hasn’t been able to find those thousands of criminal aliens they claimed were rampaging throughout the nation. Like so many other themes Trump campaigned on, the plague of immigrant crime was a fiction. ICYMI @monacharen.bsky.social: www.thebulwark.com/p/trump-immi...
WASHINGTON, D.C, (May 2, 2025) — Patricia Harrison, President and CEO of the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), issued the following statement today regarding the President’s Executive Order on public media: “CPB is not a federal executive agency subject to the President’s authority. Congress directly authorized and funded CPB to be a private nonprofit corporation wholly independent of the federal government. “In creating CPB, Congress expressly forbade ‘any department, agency, officer, or employee of the United States to exercise any direction, supervision, or control over educational television or radio broadcasting, or over [CPB] or any of its grantees or contractors…’ 47 U.S.C. § 398(c).”
Just a reminder that most of Trump's executive orders are nothing more than press releases.
After he ordered the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to pull funding for NPR and PBS, the CPB responded that it is authorized and funded by Congress and is not subject to the president's authority.
I’m yet to see anywhere that DOGE has even started on a viable path to modernizing anything.
The whole thing is a data grab for DOGE adjacent companies to build something worse after they break the government.
