There are two things wrong with the Mariners right now: the lineup isn’t performing, and their manager is several standard deviations worse than the 2nd worst manager in baseball.
One of those is likely to change as the season progresses. The other is not.

… it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light.
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
It was the era of Mike Macdonald, it was the era of Dan Wilson.
Using Brash before the 8th in a high-leverage moment: Good
Starting the 9th with Wilcox in a 6-run lead: Fine
Waiting until the tying run came to the plate in the 9th to bring in Muñoz: Bad
Better than he has been most of this and last year: Yeah (maybe)
It’s about the 5th year in a row now that the Seattle Mariners Baseball Club has been caught off-guard by the beginning of baseball season.
The one thing that mitigated the pain of how Game 7 ended was the foreknowledge that Dan was probably going to make a fatal mistake all along.
That he hasn’t learned from all the obvious mistakes and antiquated approach also mitigates optimism we can do something we’ve never done before in ‘26.
True Things:
-The M’s often, if not always, start the season stuttering on the field, especially offensively.
- The evidence is still minimal, but nevertheless overwhelming, that Dan Wilson learned nothing from the mistakes he made managing games, especially the ‘pen, last year.
Plus all the pieces of bread people tried to feed the ducks with…
If you walk into T-Mobile Park tonight and are confused by the smell of fresh-cut hay, body odor, and cinnamon whiskey, it’s Wazzu Night at the M’s game.
Julio taking pitches and making pitchers pitch to him…
That’s right, Julio: that plate is yours.
Julio has had some of the TOOTBLANiest TOOTBLANs this season.
Whenever a Mariner hits a grand slam, Dave Niehaus gives another angel in heaven its wings.

Two lessons history teaches over and over again — and will be teaching once again, apparently:
1. Appeasing dictators in pursuit of peace leads to more war.
2. The quickest way to self-impose a recession is to levy tariffs on foreign imports.
I don’t know who the leader of the free world is anymore.
I just know it isn’t the President of the United States.
A lifelong Republican, I never thought I wouldn’t vote for the GOP nominee.
Then came Trump.
After Trump, I never thought I’d feel more contempt for another politician than I did him.
Then came JD Vance, who — unlike Trump, a toddler with a spray tan — knows better.

You kinda just have to have the Kraken on in the background as you direct most of your attention elsewhere at this point.
Grubeaur is going to be beef jerky by the end of this game if the Kraken don’t stop leaving him out to dry.
Yeah … I need the #Seahawks to get back to playing this late in the season again.
Joey Daccord is the best player on the Kraken and it’s not particularly close.
Ownership is going to be asking why they’re spending to the cap and getting so little from it.
And Ronny has got no answer for that. #SeaKraken
The fact of the matter is we won’t know if this #Seahawks season was a “success” or not until the end of next year.
If it proves to be a stepping stone, it was a success.
If we’re doing the 9-10 win, one-&-done at best thing for the 4th straight year, it will be a failure.
You can go a long way between one season and the next.
And the #Seahawks need to.
They’re going to run a screen, Mike.
A rather whelming season all told, but #Seahawks fans have more reason to be excited than other fans towards their first year coaches except for maybe the Chargers and Commanders…?
The #NFL got rid of one preseason game to add a 17th regular season game. Yet between teams out of it and most other teams resting starters ahead of the playoffs, these 17th regular season game look a lot like preseason games.
Began and ended the year watching the @seattlekraken.com win. Here’s to many more victories this year. @epnewt610.bsky.social
Oregon is playing like a team whose head coach is about to take a job elsewhere.
