IMO, There are 2 ways you can go about it, either start with a small game (like one level game). Or If you have an idea and are excited for it, try and make it, but dont expect it to be made the first time around, thats fine, you failing to finish a game is also learning.

If you like (or are addicted to) league, I super recommend giving Supervive a try. It's in a state now where most people are new and trying to figure things out with you. Had a blast playing with both friends and strangers

Godot, I've been using it since 3.1 and its improved a ton since then. Mostly started Godot because Unity would load long and crash constantly, maybe its better now. But I think if you want to make a 2D game, Godot is just a way faster Unity at this point.
