Next up: Professor X should date She-Hulk!
God, I'd KILL to do a Before Sunset for these two. She became a vampire and had a baby, both his dads died (one came back) and he quiet quit the stressful job of Robin and came out as bisexual, but they've never stopped thinking about each other.
"Baby, you are going to miss that crossover."
Rug bn! That's a thing I've heard of!

Ah- Skinner with his crazy explanations The superintendent's gonna need his medication When he hears Skinner's lame exaggerations There'll be trouble in town tonight Seymour! Superintendent, I was just- uh, just stretching my calves on the windowsill. Isometric exercise. Care to join me? Why is there smoke coming out of your oven, Seymour? Uh- Oh. That isn't smoke. Today is officially the 30th anniversary of Steamed Hams. On April 14, 1996, "22 Short Films About Springfield" aired for the first time!

It brings you in! "If you had heard half as much as I had about Gandalf!", "inventing the game of golf at the same time", the Shirefolk are English bourgeoisie, taking you gradually (as Bilbo goes) into Middle Earth. Vance kicks you off the cliff. "This place is not like yours!"
The thing is though, The Hobbit's narration is aiming for entirely the opposite effect, it's conversational and exceedingly gentle, written as it was intended to be read: aloud to children. The language is a little formal by contemporary standards, but was intended to be natural when written.
Not trying to get on the case of this reader (whom I don't know and is entitled to their view) but I've heard this more than once, that it's performative or an affectation. Yes! That's the goal! It intentionally provides a distancing effect, as if viewing a remote place and time.
Rewatched this the other night myself (as I do every few years) and it remains impeccable. Unparalleled in the field.
Itβs national siblings day
Post some siblings
Just doing the all-timers back to back, huh?
Some medical folks of my acquaintance swear by Crocs of all things, because they can be wholly immersed in bleach if they need to be, but anything you can sanitise without ruining is worth looking at.
A good quality pair of supportive *washable* shoes.
Pausing a moment amidst ~everything~ to rave for a minute about @hironennes.bsky.social's *spectacular* Works of Vermin, breaking containment to shove it into everyone's hands before I even finish. The prose is immaculate, the world conjured hallucinatory but hauntingly believable. Run, don't walk.
A crucifix blends into the top of Big Ben while a crown of thorns looms at the base.
A man in the fetal position, mimicking being 'In Utero' while hovering above ancient Judaea.
A couple of pieces based on Michael Moorcock's New Wave classic, Behold the Man. Will probably do a couple more at some point
The thing about North Americans not being able to pronounce 'Craig' makes no sense. Do they say that predictions are vegg? Are people tried for war crimes in the Hegg?
Name your dog for mystery writer, give your dog mysteries. It's nominative determinism.
imagine if tabletop RPGs had caught on a century earlier, in the 1870s instead of 1970s. we debate the Moscow School vs. the Tunisia School of designs. we have a decades-old subgenre called "verdylikes." some pith-helmeted Victorian makes a stat array using phrenology. there are modernist RPGs
As I recall the correct reaction to Super Solvers: Outnumbered.
Legitimately someone else brought up the Wizard of Speed and Time a few moments ago. Eerie
Dear Alan Moore, you know how From Hell was about Jack the Ripper making sacrifices to bring in the new century? WELL!
Appreciate you breaching your policy, old friend. Someone brought up Due South to me today and I thought of you.
Not that trans people owe us any of this to be recognised! Trans people exist, trans rights are human rights!
But if you think you don't know or aren't directly touched by a trans person, you are woefully misinformed.
For International Trans Day of Visibility, I'll say this: a trans person has improved your life.
Wrote a song you love. Developed your medication. Made a ladder that didn't collapse under you. Stopped a fire at your neighbours. Made those cookies you like.
Maybe you didn't know. And yet.
See it.
Honestly, that one decision would get me onto a Sarandos defense kick--he'd be right, and he may have been the only one who could leverage such a power.
As an appendix to Saturday's essay explaining the New Wave, I've posted a list of select novels from that period, which I thought Science Fiction World might be interested in publishing.

Man, you are ALL OVER my TTRPG space lately. Looking for Seven-Part-Pact playthroughs--there's Kieron. Checking in on Public Access--there's Kieron. Working through Hollows content on the RRD discord--there's, well, you know.
Leading to the big question: what else good is coming next, tastemaker?
