4. Bulgaria votes this week for the 8th time in five years. Rumen Radev left the Presidency to run and seems likely to win. But personalism is not an ideology, so could he inherit the legacy of Orbán or be a real reformist after 12 years of EPP corruption?

3. Across the former Warsaw Pact countries, the authoritarian Right has grown structurally and his on-pair with the democratic Right.

The Left is gone. And even when it's not, it's an accessory to the Right.

2. Péter Magyar will inherit the autocratic regime that Orbán built. Will he dismantle it or use it for himself? The challenge is immense.

And the EU won't help. The EPP is happy to have an Eastern Meloni than recovering Hungarian democracy.

1. Hungary democracy was badly hit. From 2006 on, when Orbán regained power, the quality of liberal democracy in Hungary was in collapse. It was now closer to Belarus than Denmark.

It's a unique case. But there are worrying signs in 🇷🇴🇧🇬🇬🇷🇸🇰🇸🇮🇭🇷🇲🇹🇮🇹🇵🇱🇨🇾

"Ah, but you can't trust polls in Romania because [this and this partisan reason]"

Yet they are, even if with bigger margins of errors than in other places, usually accurate enough. So the shocking part is not the errors on Lasconi, Ciolacu or Cuicǎ - it's the Georgescu error.

It also wasn't simply a lack of polling or specific pollsters failing. All pollsters had Georgescu in a short range of results, very far from the result.

What happened in Romania and polling is an interesting case. The error on Georgescu is gigantic, and it's not mirrored in candidates from the same populist camp.

Mainstream candidates all have high errors (positive for Lasconi and negative for the government's candidates).

Incredibly interesting museum about how over time the Andalucian people fought and gained autonomy and the role of Blas Infante. A must-go if you're ever near Seville.
