It sounds like it came from a very sculptural process to me, as though an originally more complex baseline was chipped away until that was left, but they are very good at this stuff, so maybe it just cane out that way

Probably only a couple of days of peak splendour left, so act fast. Remember, one day of Bluebells is proven to add at least one decade of good health

I think it's peak Bluebell season. 10/19

Agree. And also expect that the test is only vaguely indicative of road confidence, safety and ability to handle things that happen outside your area (like Duncan will get really good at waiting for cows and stupidly steep hills, while you will get really good at London drivers being London drivers)

Worth saying, I did expect that history of having driven 100,000+ miles in the states plus cycling ~30,000 miles on UK roads at the time would mean it was a breeze, but it wasn't. I failed my first attempt at the test (only just). Don't want to scare you. It's manageable, but hard here

PPL is bad enough, I had no idea PRS was more of the same (although not in any way surprised)

Somewhat. With cycling I think you have a different set of road awareness and navigation challenges. In the 15 years I was not driving I was cycling on roads a stupid amount, and I still found driving on UK roads a challenge. For instance, finding the right lane at the right time on a roundabout

Having got my UK license after 15 years of no driving, I was really surprised how much harder it is to drive here. The tests are also hard, but mainly it's 4x more complicated. The road markings/signage is complete cognitive overload. As a very confident driver, I still struggle with British roads

Vladislav Delay featuring Lucio Capece at Union Chapel - Phonopsia Before I delve in, I have to say how delighted I was to return to such a beautiful and lovely sounding venue – particularly when the stage was flanked with two proper stacks of Funktion 1 sound. We’re...

A few people seem to have liked my Vladislav Delay effusing last night. Here's this, from 17 years ago, if interested. What a legacy he has! phonopsia.co.uk/vladislav-de...

Due to the vagaries of different sports' age classifications, I have a 13 yo who just went up to an Under 16 classification and a 15 yo who remains in an Under 15 classification as their respective seasons begin 🀷

Last thought: when expertise becomes a matter of knowing what to Google, we are actually in a world where AI self-service and expert with Google are both relying on the same vector search technology. It's not always the right answer, but knowing when it is... is a skill worth cultivating IMO. /12

Can I fit it? "Yes you can"! If I'm dead next week you'll know why. Judge as you will. Perhaps my eyes will start to recover by next weekend. /11

Let Claude and ChatGPT evaluate each other's work (note: I am not suggesting you can generalise from this result for reasons I won't unpack here). Eventually we have two AIs agreeing I can just get the driver online, they both agree this one will fit. All the values/thinking lines up. /10

Search for wholesalers. All closed this afternoon. Getting fed up now... ChatGPT enters the chat. Can I get this fucking driver at Screwfix? "Yes you can get the driver, here are three drivers not at Screwfix". Claude enters the chat. "No, not at Screwfix but you'll find it online no problem". /9

Him: "uh yeah, will be fine. You should be go to a local electrical wholesaler with the current driver and they'll help you find the right replacement". Me: OK. Get a bill for Β£102 for the 10 minute chat. Fair enough, it's his job, I work in services and get it. Still in a dark room though. /8

Him (consulting Google): "oh yeah, shit. Yeah, you're probably right, just replace the driver". Me: right, that's why you're here. Do I need a dimmable one, and if not, which on do I get? Him (on a different Google search now): "yeah, you could get this one". Me: are you sure, that looks massive. /7
