If #Budget2025 is supposed to be one that is "generational," it is a shame that investing in those who are already here and contributing to Canada's future have been completely overlooked.

Two large studies have been commissioned by the
@liberal_party
on how to improve and enhance the Canadian research ecosystem, and it is almost as if they were after thoughts deemed irrelevant.
Instead #budget2025 seems to focus more on provide tax breaks for industry.

Increasing support to researchers already in Canada by allocating this $1B to tri-council funding and infrastructure would go a VERY long way.
Research labs provide training and employment, strengthen innovation, and produce findings that can benefit all Canadians.

Perhaps the devil is in the details, but it's disappointing to know that
@mark-carney.bsky.social would rather budget up to $1B to support and recruit international researchers than to support to talent already in Canada.

The Canadian government has seemingly never read a single one of its own commissioned reports on what Canadian science needs. (It's not more people.)
I haven’t actually looked but does the budget indicate any increases (or decreases) to tricouncil funding for research?
Beyond this attraction plan?
le sigh.. let's recruit talent.. but then have them go through the hunger games with existing talent.
rinse.. repeat.. rinse... repeat...
PI achievement unlocked!
Congrats to Dr Frederic Abou Azar, PhD!
First PhD student to finish in the Lim lab!

In Canada, proposed cuts of 15% across the federal government would have a dramatic effect on already globally decimated research & science.
Join Canada's research & science community and tell PM Mark Carney to preserve the funding promised in 2024.

Dear colleagues:
Just because there is an “average” salary range for a postdoc in a given city, this should not be a reason to NOT PAY THEM a living wage.
It is unthinkable to justify paying PDFs less money because of the city they live in.
Do better please.
congrats!!
There is still a spot for a PhD student or Postdoc in the Lim Lab! If you are interested in metabolism, 14-3-3 proteins, adipocytes, or beta-cells, please email me (details at www.limlab.ca). International applicants are welcome!
Positions are fully funded. Looking forward to working with you!
Same for me… I wish this would follow a predictable pattern.. it’d be so helpful
One third of the time I have an imposter syndrome, another third of the time I don't have the energy to keep up with the pace of things, a quarter of the time I feel like I am managing OK, and the remaining <9% of the time I feel like I can kick ass all the way to the moon (this is when I write).
Today was another amazing day!
For the second year in a row, the Lim Lab and others labs from the @crchum.bsky.social welcomes high school students from the #Kahnawake Survival School for a day of hands-on research activities!
It’s always fun to promote #STEM #STEMM !!

Sad to hear that Dr. Henry Friesen, who had a transformative influence on health research in Canada, has died at age 90. He discovered the hormone prolactin and founded the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, among his many accomplishments. www.cdnmedhall.ca/laureates/he...
Congrats to Dr. Sabri Rial !
He investigated the mechanisms of how 14-3-3zeta influences adipogenesis.
FYI, he's on the PI job market and would make a fantastic colleague ;)

The Lim Lab at the @crchum.bsky.social is recruiting PhD students or Postdoctoral Fellows to study the roles of 14-3-3zeta in #adipocytes or pancreatic #betacells.
Projects are supported by CIHR, NSERC, or Diabetes Canada.
