A screenshot of a white-on-black terminal depicting a 19x19 go board in ascii graphics, with empty grid intersections as periods, and black and white as Os and #s
It’s absolutely incredible that one of the largest Japanese-run Go servers, which has been running since 1992, is still accessed entirely via Telnet. And while most players use GUI clients that use Telnet under the hood, you can still connect manually and get ASCII graphics streamed to you
For those that are Canadian
There's a Survey on Headlight Glare.
Make sure to have your input in the situation, and maybe things will change for the situation:

Had to use chrome, to go through this survey properly.
NGL there is something genuinely just very funny about telling the pope to read up on Catholic theory

Well I don't know, but it would certainly be a good idea to stop assuming tech CEOs are tech geniuses. There's no reason why they should be, and they often make silly claims about the tech their companies are building.

a truly stupendous amount of this is Israel’s fault *but* there is going to be growing horseshoe pressure to claim that it is *all* Israel’s fault and I don’t think that’s true
I’m not a laws of war expert but it’s my impression that just the threat to commit genocide is a war crime. Threatening to destroy a civilization is a war crime, whether or not you carry through. Not that the sort of people who support Trump care.
It would be cool to recover some of the shared optimism, sense of pride in collective achievement, cultural support for smarts and skill, and other positive elements of the space program, instead of associating space with Nazi weirdos who want to trade horses for sex.
It's frequently pointed out that NASA activities (and basic/exploratory science in general) have a fantastic return on investment, contributing far more to the economy than they take. But even if they didn't, no one's actually taking from the "cure sick people" pot to put money in the "rockets" pot.
NASA isn't why the US doesn't have universal healthcare, or a social safety net. The US doesn't have those things because politicians with the power to provide them choose specifically not to (with varying levels of support from voters). Enthusiasm for human spaceflight doesn't drive that choice.
The under-discussed tangent to this: Trump's posts make him sound weak and totally out of leverage
If I were hypothetically an Iranian mullah, I'd read that Truth Social post and think "we're winning by more than I even thought"

I know the tweet is Al generated when they use " ," before and.
“I will NOT sacrifice the Oxford comma. We've made too many compromises already; too many retreats. They assimilate the em dash and we fall back. They capture ‘not just X but y’ and we fall back. Not again. The line must be drawn here! This far, no further!”

I am extremely excited by all the atproto apps, but I am a bit uncomfortable with how many store data in the repo but don't surface in the UX the fact that you can see other users' data.
You and I know that all data is public (for now!), but the average user needs the UX hint or very explicit text.
A number of Jewish organizations are shrilly insisting that any criticism of Israeli genocide and warmongering is an illegitimate attack on Jews. At the same time, an increasing number of non-Jewish people are insisting that any attack on Jews is a legitimate attack on Israel.
This sucks, man
"ai assisted coding is making software worse"
it's not because ai is bad. it's just proof of how few devs actually bother or know how to review PRs.
don't let ai write all your code for you without reviewing it. also have a design & standards doc. fucking duh.
stacksmashing @ghidraninja Simple age check for Linux: Just have the shell ask the user to check the host IP on first boot. If they type ifconfig they are old enough, if they type ip addr they deserve to be restricted from their computer 😇
honestly... probably a better idea than most.
This is no different from Putin saying MH17 was shot down by Ukraine or Assad saying rebels gassed themselves.
Hiya! Anyone in the SF Bay Area/Remote need a cool programmer for your team? I've been messing with computers for over 30 years now, I can program anything with bits, and I've got a lot of experience with all sorts of different systems, environments, and languages.

idea for futuristic sci-fi story:
- AI is almost completely unregulated, which is encouraged by the president
- the president is a former reality tv star who has bankrupted at least six businesses
- Congress members just go on cable TV to make points but don’t do anything else

hearing AI company CEOs excitedly telling you how "we can now all finally become managers" without blinking makes me want to pack my bags and move to the moon
Personally I like technology but I understand it as something that 1) Reliably 2) Does something useful. That doesn't seem to be true for these chatbots outside of some limited applications but we're supposed to act like it is and saying otherwise is Luddism
Imagine how much the world would suck if anyone listened to these people
Today's a great day for accountability 😃
