We’ve seen the letters from the House Republicans and the claims they raised about Chorus’s work with digital creators. These claims are inaccurate and paint a false picture of Chorus and how we operate. Chairman Comer is using legal maneuvering to accomplish his real goal: to discredit and silence creators who promote democracy and oppose the MAGA agenda. The Republican members are trying to make the public think that when creators are speaking out against their agenda, they’re not speaking for themselves. This is patently false. For the record, Chorus is a nonprofit learning community. We support digital creators who want to engage thoughtfully with news, public policy, and civic issues as part of our pro-democracy mission. We bring together mentors, industry experts, workshops, and training to give creators the resources they need to expand and educate their audiences. Chorus does not pay creators for any specific posts, does not mandate what people say, does not control who they talk to or work with, and program participants maintain full creative control over their content and their platforms. The only thing Chorus requires is that our creators are committed to working to further our social welfare pro-democracy goals– like fostering a fully representative democracy, increasing civic participation, and promoting respect for our self-government. All of our activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The Committee knows this and has the materials demonstrating that their narrative is inaccurate. With no factual basis, this investigation is clearly an attack on free speech. Our creators have First Amendment rights, and we will stand firmly in their defense.
