It is a great family history, but many other non-intellectual families (extremely poor peasants who moved in the cities in the 1970s and whose children studied the sciences, for instance) had different experiences. Hopefully someone else will write them at some point.
Very beautiful piece, Irina! I do wish, however, that Lea Ypi had read and borne in mind a vast anthro lit on property in postsoc societies, which does not exoticise state socialism nor idealizes it (not all progressives do), yet at the same time shows how some people at the bottom benefited.
