2026 proposals for 10 Cabot Square, Canary Wharf Image: Howells

NEWS: C20 Society has strongly recommended the listing of the Chicago-style 10 Cabot Square in Canary Wharf (SOM, 1988-91), following a consultation with Historic England.

A recent plan app has proposed largescale demolition of the building, with only the foundations and structural frame retained.

What saves me from taking sports betting seriously is that I’m very well aware that I tend to bet on what would be the best story were it to happen, not what might actually happen.

I do, and put about £5 a year into it. I get my fun from building outrageously big accumulator bets and imagining what it would be like to win hundreds of thousands from a 5p stake.

The comment below this is amazing.

Within a wider aim to do 1500 miles of Proper Walking™ in 2026 I wanted to walk 500 miles in the first 100 days and I’ve done it in 99. 🙌 It’s the equivalent of walking from Chester to Bremen though I like to think that if I’d actually set out to walk to Bremen I’d have done it a lot faster.

How would you interpret the dietary requirement ‘can have milk but not fresh milk’? The child in question is not lactose intolerant.

My proposal again: sell 50% of the stadium to fans of each of the 48 teams for cheap. If your team gets to the final you’ve got a really cheap ticket for it. If not, you haven’t lost much. Fans have something tangible riding on every game and stadium gets sold out 24 times over.

Still my best memory of Glasgow, walking past a topless man on Argyle Street, half eaten apple pie at his feet, eating rice pudding with his fingers.

I think my favourite of mine was one about archaeological working between ephemerality and materiality, told via a case study on crash testing, called "Planes, trains and automobile collision scenarios" 🏺

Ok, with the ski jumping, cross-country skiing and figure skating seasons over, the clocks forward and Easter next weekend, I will reluctantly admit that it’s not winter anymore. You go ahead and have your silly season, let’s regroup when the nights start drawing in.

I really enjoyed it! I wasn’t expecting Cheshire West hoards to be (my) star of the show!

Great thing about the ISU’s live feed of the Figure Skating World Championships is that they also show the bits where there are just a couple of zambonis going around the ice and it’s really calming. Beats pundit segments any day.

In the Old Bailey archive online there’s a William Garrow case concerning a suspected stolen cake of spermaceti oil where Garrow says something along the lines of “does not one man’s spermaceti look much like another man’s?” and I can just imagine the big lols in that C18 courtroom…

Daughter bought a ‘pick a scientist to research’ project home from school last week, nine names, one women. She’s 6. The de-inspiring starts early.

As well as all the other problems, ‘have you tried running it through ai?’ seems to have replaced actual feedback on writing. Gah.

Letter home from child’s school, entry form for a British Science Week research project competition: ‘Choose one of the following scientists to research’ and then a list of nine names, only one of whom is a woman. Jeez.
