Me personally I don’t think I should play games to make my day worse unless I’m streaming some janky ass game and even then at that point I am also extracting fun and value out of it, so……
Enjoying things is a skill to be honed tbh!
Like I get it if it’s disappointing like prime 4 but even then if a game is just like fine I think you can extract a lot of value from that. It’s an assessment you can make like two hours in to temper your expectation for the rest of ur time put in to get the most out of it

Yeah there's a distinctive fine line between not enjoying something and being abrasive abt it to the point of comedy. For as much as artists probably hate being in the shadow of other works, I cant imagine they love the idea of their work being used as a cudgel to others like that either.....
Definitely! It's this huge swath of artificial disdain, you ask any creative or artist what they think of someone else's work that clearly had some kind of influence and it's NOTHING but love. The Persona composers were not trying to "defeat" those genres LOL
And like, being upfront? The most shittalk I've EVER heard for VGM that isn't clear online ragebaiting to rile people like this up is people much older than me not really liking chiptune and that's about it lol
I'll add to this too and say there's always that weird sense of desire for credibility out of these statements too. My palate for music used to be really limited but I'd NEVER consider putting down music artists to make it sound better.
Surprising maybe isn't the word, but disappointing is. It outlines a really sad connectivity of tech to government, and I do think they're sort of conjoined at the hip always

you FEEL like Dante or Vergil when you play that game well, their animations, movesets, the style system, its all done not just in service of the gameplay but of the characters, it makes the game feel rich and textured. The plot is SO simple but I could talk abt it for hours
FACTS its not my favorite game but its more or less crawled into my top 10 along with 5 I think. Such a spirited game, but what truly makes it amazing is just how comprehensive the design vision lines up with the characters and the plot, as simple as it is

They just like, high key kinda fucked up putting Cerberus so early. It wrenches first plays REALLY hard and makes a lot of ppl (myself included) skew negative on that fight when it probably wouldn't have been bad after Agni and Rudra or w/ DT.
That one and Arkham are the two bosses in 3 that I think are truly just bad. Gigapede isn't like, great either but its relatively mundane and simple to kill.
I DO think there's more good than bad fights in 3 though. Cerberus, Agni + Rudra, Beowulf are all excellent even w/o Vergil
I'd honestly fight Gigapede like two times before I'd fight fucking Arkham in DMC3 I can't lie, Gigapede is like boring as hell but there's simple strategies to kill it quickly
Arkham is just use a bunch of Holy WAters because dear god that actual fight is so ass
I go between 3 and 5 so much, if only for how much I love 5 Vergil (Beowulf in that game is the apex of DMC weapon design the impact is so unreal good feeling and I can do Lunar Phase which si the best move ever)

I like all of em to some capacity but I admire Tooie so much for the scale up it was willing to experiment with while being a lot less dense than DK64 was in terms of raw pickups
